I literally binged this series and I couldn't get this enough. I so want to read this again and again. And I don't know if that'll be enough and I'm not a person who actually re-reads any book that often. Leigh Bardugo has done an extremely brilliant job with this book .
This is a sequel to the six of crows series , obviously. It was way better than the 1st book itself, though the first book was also one of the best, it toped that.
The stroy revolves around , what happens after the deadliest heists which was the story line of the first book , when one the six members of the crew is taken away due to the deal gone wrong and how each will will try to fight their own fears and come out of it and bring them to justice to all those who wronged them. It's so damn well written and the story itself is told by all 6 of them in their way. It's exhilarating, heart breaking , funny and surprising. I recommend it to everyone.
PS: I listened to audiobook for the most part , and I totally recommend it. It gives one hell of a experience.
This books picks up right where Six of Crows ended. The crew is making plans and setting everything in motion to get back Inej back and wreak havoc on Van Eck who dared to cross them. Everything seems to be going according to plan but then suddenly out of nowhere, things start falling apart.
“What about the nobodies and the nothings, the invisible girls? We learn to hold our heads as if we wear crowns. We learn to wring magic from the ordinary. That was how you survived when you weren’t chosen, when there was no royal blood in your veins. When the world owed you nothing, you demanded something of it anyway.”
SoC started out a little slow because I had to get used to the world and all the different characters. Crooked Kingdom on the other hand is jam packed with action from the very first page. It was a crazy roller coaster ride of twists and turns, highs and lows and crossings and double crossings. It was dark, complex, multilayered and hands down one of the best reads of 2018
Told in multiple POVs, each and every character leaves an unforgettable mark on you. If SoC was an introduction, Crooked Kingdom guves you an indepth character study of all the members in the gang. Right along with the action, seamlessly incorporated into each page, is the past and future, dreams and fears, strength and weakness of each member of the gang. I didn’t think I could fall any more in love with the characters of JKaz, Inej, Nina , Mathias, Jesper and Wylan but I was proved wrong again.
It was a beast of a book with more than 500 pages in the hardcover but I still finished it in under a day. I literally couldn’t stop turning the pages. I knew there would be twists upon teists but even then I could never predict what was going to happen next. It kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and not even for a second, was I bored. The ending completely destroyed me. I was not expecting it and it gave me such a whiplash that I am still not completely over my shock.
“Crows remember human faces. They remember the people who feed them, who are kind to them. And the people who wrong them too. They don’t forget. They tell each other who to look after and who to watch out for.”
So people, if you havent read this one yet, it would be like missing the ride of your life. Seriously, get this book now and start reading!!!
Rating : not even a 1000 stars would do this book justice.
Kaz Brekker had hoped quite a few things to happen once he received his payment. But what he did not expect was to live out his days as a criminal who is hunted everywhere. On top of that he is worried about Inej. Then there is Nina, who has been fighting the after effects of zurda parem and Mattias is not making things easy for her. With a whole new war on their hands, will Kazz Brekker be able to come out on top or has he bitten off more than he can chew?
This book was amazing. I loved how the author has taken the plot a level higher from the first installment. If the first one was interesting then, this one was mesmerizing. As a reader, we have a basic idea of what to expect – the good guys (Kaz Brekker & his team in this case) win. But how does it happen? What ploys are in motion? Who will play what role? Will they get Inej back? Will they all survive? What tricks that Kaz have up his sleeve? And will there be a closure Kaz and Pekka Rollin’s relationship? The book deals with all these questions and more. The characters seem to grow over the series. We learn a bit more about each of them.
Good plot and great characters were amplified by prodigious storytelling. It takes a few pages for the action to begin, but once it does, there is no turning back. It was easy to get into the story and the pages practically turned themselves. We get all our questions answered in the end. There were a few surprises along the way and I can say that I am completely satisfied with the way the book took turns even though in certain cases I was expecting something very different.
This duology was fantastic. If you are a Young Adult Fantasy lover, you must read this. NOW.
