This is an eminently practical book, refreshingly free of psychobabble and full of tried and tested techniques to manage stress both in yourself and in those around you.
`Show Stress Who's the Boss!' is at once, easy to read and intellectually satisfying. The presentation is such that it can be "dipped into" in 10 minute intervals on short train journeys or else read from cover to cover without exhausting the reader.
Each sub-section has key learning points identified and is illustrated with great cartoons, apposite quotations, and practical examples, which bring the text to life.
This book will be invaluable for readers looking to better understand the nature of stress, its causes, physical, emotional and behavioural effects, and, crucially, how to bring it under control. For individual readers, it is an excellent self-help book. For managers and supervisors, it points the way to creating a working environment and culture in which people can thrive and excel.
The final section of the book contains a wealth of proven tools and resources for combating stress and flourishing, even in the face of life's difficulties.
At a time when stress is the leading cause of long term sickness absence from the workplace (CIPD, 2011)*, this is an important and timely publication, which I thoroughly recommend.
*Based on findings from an online survey, completed by 592 UK employers in June 2011.

This lovely book is peppered with lists, self-administered tests, and delightful anecdotes. My own favourite is preparation for a one one-to-one interview where someone may be stressed: a list of what to say - and what not to say!
There are lots more practical hints - keeping a stress diary so you can understand what's causing stress; how to do work-life balance, relaxation, and exercise at work. Also, how to avoid the worst in diet - balanced meals are essential, with lots of `whats', `whys' and `hows', but no recipes! Caffeine and alcohol can help, but only in small quantities; sugar on the other hand will give you a short-term `high' but no other advantages.
This is a book that will set you thinking - really thinking. Yet it's an easy cover-to-cover read. That's partly down to the persuasive content, but also the well-chosen font and relaxed layout - plus the cuddly lion who stars in the brilliant cartoons. If you feel just too stressed to make time for a book about stress, you can dip at random into the middle, use the contents page to get to the topics that are really stressing you, or cheat and jump to the end - where you'll find author Carole Spiers waiting with `10 Quick Stress Management Fixes'. Once you've read this book, you'll want to read it again, and put its wisdom into practice. It'll help you do what it says on the cover: `Show stress who's boss!'
