These have what looks like an official Samsung label on them, but they are NOT OEM. Not to mention, the label is annoying in that it's at the phone end, not the USB end, so the label gets in the way if you're using the phone and charging at the same time.
I am so mad!
The charging cable wouldn't charge, which was odd. But when I took it out of the charging port of my S5, the connector was noticeably shorter. Good grief, did it break? No, the metal end retracted into the plastic housing! (See the cable at the top of the photo; that one is retracted. The cable at the bottom of the photo doesn't retract.) I have no way of knowing if the wires in the faulty connector actually do connect, short of doing a little surgery on the connector.
Yesterday I read some of the one star reviews; some called this item a fake, I can't speak to that. The label indicates that it is made in China, whereas the other cables I've purchased are made in Vietnam (the ones that come with Samsung devices). Some people write that the product works for a short time, then fails. With one of the cables, it has already failed, and I don't know if I want to risk using the other. Some reviews indicate that the item doesn't charge the way a genuine OEM product should, that the output is 500mA vs. a genuine product putting out 1,200mA. Again, I can't test this.
In the "Questions and Answers" section for this product, there are questions that directly ask if this is a genuine Samsung product, and the answers range from "It has Samsung imprinted on it" to emphatic "Yes", but YMMV.
I hate waste, but these cables are going into the electronic recycling pile. And I'm looking for something that actually will work.
Still gets a couple stars, for at least working 6 months
I bought this back in April 2015. It's now October, and it's broken. So, I got 6 months out of it. Im not going to say that is necessarily bad- since I'm sure it has more to do with using my phone while it's charging, and how I hold it. There's no visible sign of defect. It appears something had tone wrong inside the cord, where it would form a bend just below the part that connects to the phone itself (wiggling the wire while plugged causes charge to go off and on)
Otherwise the charger was great, very sturdy. Would give perfect rating if it had never broken, but 6 months isn't bad.
After using the cable for three months, it now only slow charges. I have tried a regular USB 2 cabe connected to the Samsung 2 amp wall adapter and use the app "Samsung Galaxy Charging Current" and am getting 1200-1800mah, but this three month old cable now only provides 450mah. I'm guessing the quality of this USB 3 cable just isn't any good to only last 3 months, where the original lasted about 20 months. As it turns out, Amazon does sell the real (not fake) genuine Samsung cable, but it was hard to track down. It is at this link:
After using a Note 3 for 1.5 years, the cable connection at the phone end was not connecting properly, and the phone would say it was slow charging. I ordered this cable, and now that phone charges properly again.
It is the same microUSB 3 charging cable that comes with the Note 3.
I recommend this, since it cost much less than ordering it directly from Samsung.
