Writing this review after having used the phone for over a month. An overall rating of 4 stars for the product considering the price and the worth that it delivers for the price. I bought the product for a price of Rs.24,000 after the cashback and my reviews are based keeping in mind the price, other alternatives available in the market and the fact that this is a mid range phone.
PROS:
1. Extremely good battery life: the battery life on this phone is one of the best that I have seen or even heard of. After a day's usage on full charge (I mostly use it for calls, texting, web browsing and about 2 hours of video playback and an hour's music playback) I am still left with about 40% charge to spare when I get back home in the night! The fast charging is also very good and better than my previous Nexus 5X. You can hope for a 0 to 60% charge in about half an hour.
2. Large screen with good resolution: The 5.7 inch full HD super AMOLED display delivers what it promises,The viewing experience on the phone is great and very pleasing. The adaptive brightness works well and is no trouble, The always on display is a good touch and does not really drain any battery. The large screen provides for a good media and browsing experience. The touch is responsive and you should have no trouble there.
3. Fast and efficient: The 4 GB RAM with Snapdragon 626 octa core processor deliver a good performance, This is my first phone and I have always heard Samsung phones being slow and not being able to handle heavier operations. My experience of a month says otherwise, I haven't had any such performance issues with the phone and the phone has not frozen, rebooted or force stopped any applications so far. But I do not run any graphic heavy games or applications which may push the phone to test its boundaries hence, you may want to check this out yourself.
4. Almost no bloatware: You would get about 51.7 GB of user available space on this 64 GB phone which I believe is pretty standard and there are very few unnecessary pre installed applications on the phone.
5. Clean, easy and good looking UI with a good amount of customisation possibilities. The phone supports dual sim with a hybrid sim card slot and with very good dual sim management options. The phone also packs many smaller options which are neat and you will find them to be useful as you keep using the device.
6. The bottom firing speakers are loud and clear. Samsung has also added an FM radio which is cool since most of the newer phones have doing away with that,
7. Good design with superior build quality. The phone looks and feels premium in the hand with the metal back adding to it. The design as advertised is "lean and mean". The Samsung branding is another pro if you would want to count it in too.
CONS:
1. Camera: The camera was the biggest disappointment on this phone. If I could rate the cameras I would rate 1.5 on 5 for the front cam and 2 on 5 for the primary cam. Though Samsung is providing 16MP + 16MP for the cameras, they are no good. The image stabilisation is very bad and most of the times you will end up with blurry images. The low light performance is also not good and does not give you crisp images. The camera software is also pretty bad and a good number of times I have not been able to take pictures and there is an error in capturing picture, Will have to restart the phone to have the camera working. There is not one good thing to say about the camera even if i would want to. I would have rated this phone with 5 stars had the camera been any better. Hope Samsung fixes this problem (or at least the software issues) with an update for the camera.
2. Slippery: The phone is very lean and large with a well finished metal back. All of these things are very good, but when all of these things come together, well, they make an extremely slippery phone. This can however be overcome by using a case on the phone,
3. The finger print sensor is not very responsive and you might find yourself having to enter the patters to unlock your phone some times. However you don't need to wake your phone to enter the finger print and just placing your finger over the scanner embedded in the home button will unlock the phone.
4. No Samsung Pay support: Though this phone has NFC it does not support Samsung Pay. Hopefully it will be available in the near future. For those who care, it does support android pay.
Overall it is a good phone with some neat features. If you are not worried about the camera and can compromise on that then this would be a good phone to go for the price. There are other alternatives available to this with similar or a little better features for a slightly higher price.
Samsung provides inner ear earphones, a micro USB to type C converter pin and a fast charging type C adapter in the package along with the phone, sim ejector tool and other documentation. Amazon provided swift delivery.
