“VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE” nothing epitomizes these words better than this book from supposedly culinary newbie authors. The book packs in the entire span of every possible culinary category one can think of and in such fine detail that it could be considered a one stop shop for all cooking aficionados. Added to this the vivid commentary by the authors of instances in life that lead to many of their creations reads like rich flowing chocolate cream. Id recommend this to anyone and everyone and that includes those who have never cooked anything ever and are itching to take the first leap of faith or to those who would like to add that extra twist / pack that extra punch to their recipies and cleverly plate them as their own creations considering many of the dishes actually take less than 30 minutes to prepare. All in all a “dummies on cooking for all” kind of book but hidden behind all the subtlety are some practical and useful tips and tricks . To be able to cook for someone in a way is an expression of ones love / affection and this is book and its contents inspire us to do just that . All the very best to the authors … Stupendous effort ..
Happiness is a cup of coffee and a good book, so I’ve heard, and agreed. But I’m a foodie. I love trying new food, as long as they don’t aggravate my allergies, and the caveat being that I can’t cook very well. A book about food and recipes, that also tells a story, that’s something I’ve loved to read. This book is something that fell plush into that genre.
Most friends around me who do cook, they like to experiment. Roomies Foodies is the outcome of two foodies deciding to put their recipes/experiments/protocols into a book, and share those ‘eureka moments’ with the world. The book has, not just the recipes, but vignettes through which they recollect how they came to try it. And yeah, some photographs of few of those yummy dishes.
I loved the recipes, some of which are simple enough for me to try. It’s quite useful for anyone who hasn’t cooked much but want to begin. There are few ingredients that we do not like or cannot eat, and the authors have taken that into account and have suggested alternatives for those which will still keep the dish easy and yummy.
I tried the recipe for banana nuggets, which were a variation on something I’ve loved since I was a child. And that came out really nice. Most of the recipes, for me, are simple, easy to make and not very time consuming either. It’s something I’d recommend to a couple of my foodie friends for sure.
I have been enjoying using the recipes of Roomies/Foodies. Every recipes is explained very well in detail and beautifully and methodically. I have also found the right store in the city (Bangalore) that provides some of the rare ingredients, mentioned in the book. I certainly have learnt many new things (ingredients, recipes, style of cooking), and has kept my life exciting and fun with new dishes to try and taste. I have been accessing it in a convenient manner on my iphone, placing it at a safe distance from heat and splatter. It is so easy to enlarge the text and pics (so can be seen from far) and to view the screen and to turn the page. Congratulations to both the authors Lakshmi and Meghana. I have known Lakshmi as she is my ex-colleague (we are scientists) and as my awesome great friend with beautiful qualities, cooking being just one of them. Her book, Roomes/Foodies that she has co-authored reflects her scientist brain and style to write the protocol of cooking, the remarkable diligence that is required to know how the 'new cooks/ revisiting cooks' like me, will be able to use it to our best advantage. I wish the book good success. Healthy cooking gives healthy body and in healthy body resides healthy mind. (Reena Yadav, IADLife.com)
Roomies Foodies-Firstly, the cover design is very well designed-catchy title, colourful design, very attractive and striking and secondly, the contents and recipes flow beautifully-they are very creative and sound easy to the layman to follow and cook! I absolutely loved the variety and range of fun recipes that the authors Lakshmi and Meghana had come up with along with fun names too and a detailed appendix. I would highly recommend Roomies Foodies to everyone interested in trying out new recipes and in fact, have urged my twin daughters to buy it for themselves and one copy for my birthday ( Dec.27!) Well-done-much to feel good about and proud of- I feel proud to be related to Lakshmi- both brainy and creative in the kitchen( lucky husband Ashwin!) I can totally relate to a lot of things written in this from my student days in New York. Brings back a lot of nostalgic memories and makes me wanna try all the recipes to relive those memories. This is an amazing beginners' guide for novice cooks who are figuring things out in a new place, whether it be in the US, Australia, Europe or India. I'm gonna make it a project to try one recipe a week until I'm done with them all.. Kudos to authors!
Congratulations to the authors for a cook book with a lot of funfilled stories following each recipe .I found it interesting for the bachelor group besides the students .Each recipe is simple and easy to make. The book cover is very attractive and the pictures are brilliant. I loved every bit of it and waiting to try it in the bachelor kitchen. Best wishes Arun
