Having lived in the US for many years as a postdoctoral fellow, which is nothing but a glorified student's life, I am able to connect with the life of Lux and Meg. And it is so true that one has to cook to survive as a student abroad. Roomies/Foodies is certainly an excellent and handy guide for students going abroad for the first time. The pictures in it have a unique feel about them and the recipes. Though I wish some of the guides in the Appendix moved right to the start of the book as I think they are extremely useful. I also would like to see the book in print and buy the hard copy, as it would be a handy addition to our kitchen for all in my family as a quick reference while cooking.
Having spend some time studying abroad, have missed having a guide that's a help for students who are trying to balance being in a new environment and having to find recipes that are easy to make (besides being tasty!) - this is where "Roomies / Foodies: Fun'n Easy Cooking" fills the void. Well written with the amateur student cook in mind, Kudoo's to Lux and Meg for having put together this book, which I'd say needs to be part of the survival kit for any desi student trying to make their way to a foreign land!
Have been experimenting with some of the recipes and they are extremely easy to follow… Love the "tips" which couple as time-saving tricks and a practical approach to cooking. Bottom line, a great book to have and a must have if you are going traveling either as a student or moving to a new place and you need to find an easy guide to fun’n easy cooking!
Loved the anecdotes before the recipes. The writing style is interesting and keeps you engaged. Really simple, easy-to-follow recipes for young people who have no prior knowledge of cooking. A definite requirement if you know someone or are planning to travel abroad and need some assistance in the kitchen.
