Fantastic story told in an amazing way. Throughout the reading we will feel all the emotions of Sivagami. One of the best books I have read. This is a must have for a book lover. This can be counted as Anand sir's best work . --By Jyolsna on 26 March 2017
The amazing book. There's a twist every turn. Wasn't much crazy about movie, just picked the book as it went on low price just before release of Bahubali 2. So instead of waiting for movie, I thought to give this a try and I'm eagerly waiting for 2nd part now --By Amazon Customer on 5 May 2017
Reading it before watching Bahubali - the Conclusion, was thrilling. Waiting to see lot more such books of each character in bahubali to know why they are the way they are as shown in the film. A good read. --By Amazon Customer on 13 May 2017

The story revolves around love, greed, revolts, revenge, honour, power, politics & prostitution. This book is well paced & keeps you engaged + guessing the next plot...
If you want to get a deeper insight into the characters of Bahubali, then it’s a must read & just like the movie leaves you at the end of the book guessing the next plots... how did Sivagami end up marrying the beast Bijjala? What is Brihanala up to? Why was Sivagami's father branded a traitor?
Bahubali: Before the Beginning #2, I am waiting for you....
The Rise of Sivagami is an excellent story, The author have canvassed the rise of the the queen beautifully. You will definitely enjoy reading the book. A must buy for novel readers. Although the book is not written in English type of novels, but definitely it is one of the best novel. If you are in bangalore and a regular bus traveler, then it is a nice book to go for it.
~Bahubali Before The Beginning~
THE RISE OF SIVAGAMI BY ANAND NEELAKANTAN
This novel talks about everything that happened before the beginning of Bahubali. The story is centred around Sivagami, the future queen of Mahishmathi. It depicts the story when Sivagami was a teenage girl. As in all the Bahubali movies this story also has many characters, which makes it more interesting for the readers.
This story is about how Sivagami became a part of the palace officials. In this story, Sivagami hates Mahishmathi and it's king Maharaj Somdeva since her father was been executed by him for treason. This is about her journey from an orphanage to becoming a bhoomipathi of Mahishmathi.
You will also read about Kattappa during his teenage life. You will come to know about his family & how he became such a great warrior. The story depicts his suffering & struggle to survive in this master & slave lifestyle. You will experience how he has to take tough decisions in his life.
You will also come across Bijjaladeva & Mahadeva. You will come to know about Prince Mahadeva as you have hardly known about him from the movies.
The author has described the orthodox thinking in a brilliant manner, the master and slave lifestyle, the cast based designation and ill treatment that was followed during the olden days. As you will expect from a Bahubali book, it has fighting and war scenes poured down brilliantly in terms of words.
The story is very interesting as Sivagami hates Mahishmathi then how she became the queen of Mahishmathi. The story ends at very interesting point where Sivagami is declared as a bhoomipathi which makes you think about will she take her revenge or not, hence you will also be waiting for it's next edition.
The same is case with the first installment in the Baahubali series. I was reading this book every opportunity I had. Anand had ensured that the reader is engaged right from the first page of this book, all the way to the Acknowledgments. The characters came to life in my kindle and in my imagination, and I could feel the aspiration and tension of the characters in the book.
Eagerly looking forward to the next 2 installments of this book
ever since I have started reading Anand Neelkantan’s books, I have become a fan of him- the first of which was Asura and some scenes in that book were so intense that they left me shaken. in April 2016, I came to know that a new book of him was released…..and finally in this April. I finally laid my hands on it- I am talking about the paperback edition, not others.
you know Bahubali movie sequel has gained so much of interest, that if you criticise the movie in a negative way, you are sure to be hacked down. and writing a book that can match that great movie standard, requires a lot of courage and patience. and I feel anand sir has stricken that. if there is any formula for writing gripping and intense books, anand has cracked it out.
the book is the story of Sivagami- the foster mother of bahubali and in this book, the daughter of devaraya and alongside, Kattapa, the slave of the throne. the book explores this two hidden characters whose backstories have not been shown in the movie. many other gripping characters like Mahadeva, bijjala deva, keki, skandadasa and all others named in the dramatis personae have been well etched out.
the best part of the book is its beauty in the emotions generated by the chapters and the gripping narrative. I felt that the beauty of the language and simple yet lucid vocabulary of Anand Sir makes the book, truly a “masterpiece”. one cannot put down the book if you have started once. although the book is of 500 pages, you would at least two days if you are a fast reader- for completing the book, for you are sometimes left boggled by some intense scenes like the first chapter and the raid of jeemotha’s ship, and even some intense dialogues of both sivagami and katappa.
for the narration, it is just mind-boggling. the way he captures each character and emotions in his pen would leave you enthralled.
you while reading the book go through a lot of fight scenes, and neelkantan explains each as a fight master. you would go mad by the intense and riveting fights and dialogues. the characters are such well bound with the reader that you live through them throughout the book.
there is not even a single dull moment in the book, that you can point out.
the book explores the hidden side of sivagami devi, you in the movie see her as an ideologist who does not break rules and is very intensive and aggressive, but in the book, you see sivagami as a daughter of her father and a rebel against all odds. you would see her character is etched out very well and would cheer her to win a lot of times.
in the book, you even see our loyal slave, katappa. you would feel a twitch occurring in your heart about whom to support shivappa or katappa. but I am sure you cannot choose only. the beautiful philosophical ideas of honesty and loyalty- thrown by katappa- and the ideas of freedom and courage- rained down by shivappa would leave you mesmerised.
the book totally is a worth reading. and if you have not read it, it is totally your huge loss.
overall the book is in simple words a “masterpiece”. the best of all of Neelkantan’s books. a perfect tapestry of gripping and boggling narration and imagination.
imaginative. intrigue. intense.
I would recommend the book to all the book lovers- may it be any genre you would love the book for sure- and to everyone who loves fiction and I am sure they would love the gripping story.
the book is a perfect tapestry of thriller and fiction, which would leave you spellbound after you read it. the book has occupied a special place in my heart and I title it as a ” legendary tour-de-force”.
