Also, when i am out doors or in the sun, it does sweat down and create a greasy "stain" on my head which leads to break outs. I notice some other brands would "melt" and i would break out below my hair line because of the sweating + the product on my skin
After opening the container, I found a product that appeared to be a white wax. Yet, once worked between my palms and applied to hair, I discovered that it does not have one important characteristic of a wax—strength to hold hair in place. To have a stronger, wax-like hold, I needed to apply a substantial amount of the product, and this weighed down my fine hair. Also, hours later its lack-of-hold became noticeable and required more maintenance than with other hair products I've used.
Although its matte finish was acceptable when using a small amount of the product, a greater amount left my hair with a dull finish. Not what I expected from a wax. But in comparison to other products I've used, dullness seems to be a common risk taken in using matte finish products. Usage now becomes a tradeoff. Using a little amount provides a risky, light hold, matte finish; but a greater amount provides a stronger hold, dull finish. Neither of these options was worthwhile.
Other reviewers have praised this product, and I can understand how it may work well for men with thicker, darker hair worn during non-humid and low-wind conditions. And it does have a pleasant fragrance!
This product seems to have much in common with the American Crew (Fiber) product, and I believe that one could be substituted for the other in term of total performance.
For me a better wax product is Smooth Viking (Hair Wax). It is a stronger-hold product and has a slight gloss finish. A little bit goes a long way with fine, lighter hair and it does not leave a dull finish. It also lasts longer and is more workable. On the negative side, it does not have a pleasant fragrance.
The Redken Maneuver Wax is creamy enough to spread, yet firm enough to hold. It has the benefits of a wax for holding medium to long hair like it was short, with out having that hardened crusty feeling. I apply this into my hair both slightly damp or even after a good blow dry. I can go all day with it barely starting to fall. I finish off my hair with a few sprays of hairspray if I want to give it an even longer lasting hold. Usually, I bring this with me and in the later part of the day, I just apply a bit more on my fingers and stroke it through my hair again and it goes right back into place with out any more fuss.
This still allows for fingers to be ran through the hair. It has a pleasant smell. The best part, is it washes out very easily, even if covered over with a hair spray. My hair never feels over used or heavy from it either. This matters to me because of my thick long hair. If I want to come it out later in the day, I can do that as well and the style and texture will remain, with a natural looking fall. I might wet my fingers to re-activate the hair again, or just to give it that styled messy intentional look.
