About the Author
Pritam Mandal is originally from Tisha, a village located near Kolkata, India. He completed a PhD (2013) in Physics from USA after his MSc in Physics from IIT Bombay (2007). After PhD, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Middle East.Writing is Pritam's passion. Among all activities and works, Pritam says that writing is what makes him feel truly alive; he feels that writing is what beats the chaos and noise out of him; bringing balance and peace in his being; offering him the pleasure of re-experiencing life and expressing it (what it feels to be alive; what it feels to be happy or unhappy; sad or cheerful; cursed or blessed or blissful). He wishes to remain a learner forever; finding motivation, enthusiasm, energy and time to read, explore experience, understand, learn, appreciate and, of course, write. He sincerely wishes to bring in a little light and peace to the world we live in. "Let there be light. And let there be peace." This is what he prays for every day. Pritam lives with his wife Libia in Visakhapatnam, India where he spends most of his time reading, writing, running, cycling and trying to follow an 'organic' lifestyle. A bold and daring young woman from a little village in India, Anurita chooses to tread the untrodden path, against the dictates of a judgmental society. But she is determined to seek the true meaning of her life at any cost. As she follows her heart all the way to the city and beyond, she is met with turbulences of all kinds. A stunningly handsome middle-aged man stirs in her feelings of love and passion; but her romantic fantasy meets with an abrupt end. And then, in a faraway country, she loses her friends to an unexpected tragedy.
Just when everything seems to be going awry and she is about to give up on humanity, it rains. As rains from the smoky sky fall on the Earth, Anurita discovers fireflies in the darkness, dancing on the rain-bathed petals of lovely carnations, the flowers of god.
The cover has an image of a Girl looking at the Stars in the sky, which goes well with the girl who is from middle class family and has Dreams.
The title seems very apt for the story and is really attractive. The language used in narration of the novel is easy to understand and simple. The way the story in which it is written made me glued to the novel till end.
This novel is about the life of a middle class girl, Anurita and her dreams. The story is basically based on Anurita used to write a fictional diary, which she had named Rita. The story is about how she goes against all odds and how she wins against all the obstructions with flying colours. This novel is about Anurita’s vision of Green Earth and Clean Environment. The Quotes are used very well and in apt place.
This novel is for someone who is a nature lover and loves inspiring motivational stuff, if you are that someone, you must definitely pick this novel. Overall, This novel is a very nice refreshing read.

“Be the change you want to see in the world. Raise your voice against corruption.”
Rains Off A Smoky Sky by Pritam Mandal is a fiction that is created by the collection of pages from Anurita’s diary in which Anurita is herself a fictional character. This book is a dedication to the author’s maternal and paternal grandmother, to girls and especially to all the readers. The book motivates all the readers to join hands in making this world a green and clean world and raise voice against corruption and all the illegal activities that take place across the globe. The book is a satire to all those people who are ruining the purity of the Mother Earth and getting engaged in peril activities. This book is also an inspiration for all the girls to fight against the immoral world and stand for themselves.
The entire story revolves around the chief character of the book ‘Anu.’ Anu was a small village girl who had huge dreams to create a difference in this world. She was gifted a diary by her father to jot down all her thoughts and write ups in it. She named her diary Rita whom she considered as her inner soul and best friend. Her life was full of mishappenings and she was tormented by her close ones on being a girl at every stage. Her major support system was her parents. Her life changes the day she is selected for a huge project that attempts to make the environment pure and reviving again. Will she succeed in her attempts? Will she ever accomplish her goals and dreams?
Although this book was a work of fiction it appeared to be so much connected to the reality. The reader could connect her soul with Anu’s inner soul i.e. Rita and feel the emotions that dwell within her heart. All the dialogues were so real and natural. The language was lucid and straightforward. The book is a big inspiration to all the aspiring writers as well as the readers. The characterization and narration were dynamic. The title goes very well with the story. The cover of the book describes Anurita’s vision of Clean Environment and Divine Earth. Our Mother Earth is suffering from diseases that are caused by Her own children’s (human beings) callous attitude. Being a mother she has never complained and has always fulfilled the needs of her children. What did she get in return? She is at the risk of withering and dying and we don’t even bother to save our Saviour’s life. This book is a huge inspiration for all the readers to rise up and stop the foul activities that take place before it’s too late. I liked of Anurita as she stands very well as a bold, confident, humble and aspiring personality. Despite all the hardships, the character does not leave the path that she travels to attain her goals. I recommend this book to all those who love their Mother Earth and also encourage the readers to spread the words in order to save our planet.
