Review

Marvellous. The most important book published for a decade (Lynne Truss Sunday Telegraph)

Quiet is a very timely book, and Cain's central thesis is fresh and important. Maybe the extrovert ideal is no longer as powerful as it was; perhaps it is time we all stopped to listen to the still, small voice of calm (Daisy Goodwin The Sunday Times)

Susan Cain's Quiet has sparked a quiet revolution. In our booming culture, hers is a still, small voice that punches above its weight. Perhaps rather than sitting back and asking people to speak up, managers and company leaders might lean forward and listen (Megan Walsh The Times)

I can't get Quiet out of my head. It is an important book - so persuasive and timely and heartfelt it should inevitably effect change in schools and offices (Jon Ronson The Guardian)

A startling, important, and readable page-turner (Naomi Wolf, author of The Beauty Myth)

Product Description

In Quiet, the international bestseller, Susan Cain shows how the brain chemistry of introverts and extroverts differs, and how society misunderstands and undervalues introverts. She gives introverts the tools to better understand themselves and take full advantage of their strengths.
Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with real stories, Quiet will permanently change how we see introverts - and how you see yourself.

I was randomly browsing through YouTube and came across the TED Talk of Susan Cain on Introverts. I became so impressed and got this book 'Quiet'. And this is one of the most amazing books I have ever read.

Susan Cain, an introvert herself has done a splendid job of researching through numerous articles, research papers, places, cultures, people and has presented a wonderful book that is in support of Introverts, who are viewed down upon in this world. As the title of the book says it portrays 'The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking'

The author has divided the book into four parts. The first part talks about how Extroverts became the model people due to Urbanization and how various advertisements and people like Dale Carnegie at the start of 20th century were examples of that. She presents examples of lot of CEOs who were introverts and how leaders are not necessarily extroverted as they donot need to talk to masses. With the help of Steve Wozniak she describes how Group Think kills creativity.

The next part deals with the Biological part of Introversion and Extroversion and how these two people behave. Highly reactive infants tend to become Introverts (they are more cautious, alert and avoid strangers). Lowly reactive infants tend to become Entroverts (they are carefree, social and enjoy new company). The author gives the example of how Eleanor Roosevelt was behind the good deeds on Franklin Roosevelt and why Introversion helps. In Financial World, Introverts tend to do well than Extroverts (eg: Warren Buffett)since they think more before taking decisions. Introverts tend to be Threat Oriented and Extroverts tend to be Reward Oriented, which is why many M&A deals fail.

One of the best books to understand the introvert trait.
India is a society where being introvert is like being guilty until proven innocent. This book outlines the biggest strengths of being an introvert and stops you from looking at introversion as a liability and makes it an asset. My personality being INTJ (take personality test), this book was of immense help in understanding myself better. I stopped forcing myself in extrovert activities and utilised my time in better areas.
Highly recommended. 5 Stars!

This is a very beautiful book and probably one of a kind. This book deals with the introvert persons, their perspective to the world, their likes anjd dislikes and how very different they are the from extroverts. While most of the self help books look down upon the introvert people and try to turn them to extroverts, this book celebrate introvertion. I would recommend this book to all the introverts out there.

Its a wonderful book. A must have book. A few months ago I realised that I was highly introverted but I thought that it was a drawback about my personality. But Quiet is such a wonderful book, it made me appreciate being an introvert. Now, the days when I used to feel that no one talks me because I am boring have changed to the days when I feel totally okay of being the person I am. Queit has made me love being an intovert. I strongly recommend it to everyone and specially to those, who want to realise that they are not alone and that its totally okay to be an introvert.

This is a book you wished would have been published a long time ago.I purchased this book via Kindle and finished reading it in less than a week.

We now live in a period of time where the demand to be outgoing and always saying something is possibly at it's highest.
As people who are introverts, that is, people who are more prone to introspection, feel extremely drained by this constant need to have something to say, even when there is nothing important to contribute to the conversation. This book has certain strategies that can help you cope with such demands.

Anyone who feels that he/she is constantly bombarded with requests by friends or colleagues to speak up more ought to give this book a try.Susan has also highlighted some strategies that can be used by introverts to cope with the demands of a world biased towards extroversion.

It is evident form this book that the contents are not just anecdotal evidence, but contain plenty of citations to back up the theories. I would highly recommend anyone reading this book to download the application Evernote from Google Play Store and start taking notes because every chapter in this book has something worthwhile to note and remember.
