Product Description

Marie doesn’t believe in fairytales and needs no handsome prince to rescue her from misery – but everything changes when she falls in love with Crown Prince Christian of Taragonia. When his sister invites Marie to the palace, their lives collide and leave them both fighting their forbidden attraction.
Prince Christian has no place in his life for love or for a woman who doesn’t fit into the royal scheme of things. But vivacious Marie steals his heart and puts all he has lived for at stake. When the media gets wind of their affair, he has to make a difficult decision.
Will the unlikely couple have a chance at a happy ending?

The romance novels of this promising new series are reminiscent of 'Royally Screwed' by Emma Chase and bestsellers by Nora Roberts that also involve irresistible princes bent on making an exception to the rule.

Book 2 – The Prince’s Stubborn Bride
Book 3 – The Prince’s Surprise Bride

Disclaimer: I bought a copy of this book

I am reading Ms. Fernando's work after a long time. I always had a feeling that her writing caters to YA novels but with this series of Royal Romance, she has certainly proved me wrong.

The Starting Phase:

Every romance reader reads a romance novel for one thing only - the 'good feel' feeling that remains even after you close the book. Ms. Fernando's romance has that. Now who wouldn't want to be a Cinderella of their own love story? But here Marie is not a damsel in distress where the knight in the shining armor comes to the rescue. She stands out as a very strong woman who loves her identity. This makes me want to connect with Marie - for the days of a damsel in distress are gone.

The Princely attitudes:
While writing a romance series and that too of a make believe Prince - not only does a writer create believable characters but also the world where the Prince will rule supreme. The alpha hero who escapes all those swooning ladies, only to be caught up by the bluntly-spoken, tomboyish yet beautiful (read that as someone who does not know how beautiful she is) ordinary girl.
Both Christian and Marie did justice to their respective role.

The ambiance:
Was created by Christian's sister, Olivia. I really liked this character a lot and a little birdie told me that she makes an appearance in the series later. I am looking forward to reading the love story of Olivia. Once you read this book, you will know why :) Her beauty and grace will leave a mark on the reader.

What I loved about this book:
1. The total royal ambiance.
2. The chemistry between Marie and Christian.
3. The struggle between falling in love and duty.
4.

I had read a series of royal tales by Nora Roberts and have been hooked since then. When Devika Fernando announced her Royal Romance Series, I was awed. I couldn't wait to get my hands on The Prince's Special Bride.
This is the story of Marie who is illegitimate and has African blood. The story is about her and Prince Christian of Taragonia. They fall in love. His mother, the Queen, disapproves. Will they be able to get together?
The author has woven an interesting tale giving the reader glimpses of palace life in modern times. A special kudos for that.
Marie is a strong character and admirable. Prince Christian could have been stronger, especially considering that he's being trained to be the future king.
The Queen is someone I could visualise. She's been etched superbly. Olivia, Christian's sister, is another character I liked reading about.
Though the pace lags a bit midway, the last fifty pages more than compensate for that.
All in all, a lovely book that truly inspires me to pen my own series.
Psst... an introductory chapter to Book 2 in this series is at the end of this book. That promises to blow the reader's mind indeed.

Disclaimer: Two genres I prefer to read the least are Horror and Romance; and both for the same reason too.
Having said that, there are a few writers who you just can't not read; doesn't matter the genre. For me, Ms. Fernando is one such writer par excellence. An impeccable command over the language, allows her to portray the characters and locales so aesthetically that they almost seem to be right there in front of you.
'The Prince's Special Bride' is only the third novel by Ms. Fernando that I've read; and I find her to be rapidly growing into a master storyteller with each one. Schnell wachsend...

WHAT I LIKED:
As mentioned earlier, the locales have been exquisitely portrayed, while the characters are well defined. Christian, Marie, Olivia, the Queen, Sebastian, all the characters sounded true-to-life. Places like the Kingdom of Taragonia, the Royal Palace, and Kuramathi Island in the Maldives are described in such enchanting details that one almost longs to be there.
An un-hurried, steady pace of narration has been maintained throughout the novel, which makes the reading all the more easy and interesting.

WHAT I DIDN'T:
Not much there to not like, really. However, I do have my two cents for Ms. Fernando. Change your proofreader, please! It pains to see typos and leftovers, in such a lovely book.

WOULD I RECOMMEND?:
Yes, I'd insist! An absolute must-buy for the readers of romance.

I give 'The Prince's Special Bride', a 5 out of 5 stars.

The women characters of Devika Fernando in the Royal Romance Series are today's woman who have their heart and head at the right place. Loved them, both Marie in Prince's Special bride and Olivia in Prince's Stubborn Wife.
They know exactly what they want from their life and know to expand their sight to a greater good as well: Strong yet soft women of substance. Prince Christian is a complete Mr. Perfectionist. His silent brooding and controlled nature steals your heart the moment he appears watching silently his sister and the attractive exotic stranger with her. Christian and Maria with a strong sense of righteousness and the wellbeing of Taragonia will leave you warm towards the couple.
