This cooker is the best for my needs. I didn't want aluminium because it leaches into food. I wanted a cooker to use as a steamer. I wanted a wide mouth so that depending on the vessel that suited the vegetable, I could use both big and small containers inside the cooker. Last, I wanted a graceful shape beyond the boring flat base and cylindrical body.

I got this graceful Indian 'handi' shape. It looks elegant and is just as practical. All my needs are fulfilled from day one. It cooks fast, steams excellent. It has what is unique to me, a safety valve that has a tiny metal pipe that bobs up indicating the air seal is working when I close it. In my previous Vinod Stainless Steel Cooker, it was tough to fit the lid (it was a horrible product that cracked in 2 months anyway, third class steel). But this one has an arrow sign on both the lid and the body, you just slide them together till the two arrows meet. Perfect! The job is done super fast.

You can use the whistle-counting method, or the constant simmering and watch-monitoring method. Both work great on it.

The only niggle is that being stainless steel, dark spots appear on the body. But I don't care, at least I don't have to tolerate aluminium or Teflon leaching into my food! I love the spots too. They suggest this elegant 'Handi' is a workhorse that is never idle. Just like the massive antique 'kadhais' of my dear deceased grandma! ....

There is nothing to dislike for this reason....just smiles and sighs of relief. So glad to be relieved of the Vinod Disaster Cooker. Wish I had found this one earlier.

Well done Prestige. Sell well, earn fame. Our first Prestige came in 1969 when my parents were married. You are even better....

Never opens the lid

I bought this cooker today(07/11/2015, 5:30 PM). After receiving immediately i tried to open all the stuff like whistle, cooker lid and cooker pot out of the cover. i just tried to close. It did not close properly. It is stuck. My husband too tried very HARD. It never opened. I have two pressure cookers already at home one is 6.5 lit and other is 2.2 lit. Pressure cooker is not new to me. I thought this stainless steel 4.4 Lit will help me as medium cooker. But i am going to return it IMMEDIATELY.

I want to Update my review. I am ready to send back to Amazon. I packed everything and sealed. But I was not happy to return this Cooker.

I have ordered this Handi want to use stainless steel body not Aluminum. After reading so many negative reviews about lid I bought this with confidence. Since my experience with Prestige products was never wrong.. So I opened the package again and tired very hard hitting on the carpet not to get scratches on the body and finally opened it after 20 mins. After that I did some small tricks and I want to write my experience for this small cute Handi to Open and close and use it effeciently.

1. DON'T try to close the lid after you open the package. You may experience same like me.
2. After you Open the package, remove the Gas Cut( Black Ring inside the Lid) wash it with warm water.
3. Try to pull and expand the Gas Cut in all angels. So that it won't be hard and will be easy to close and open the lid
4. Before cooking every time wash the Gas cut (if it is Dry) and insert it again.

After 2- 3 uses it should work perfectly. I will update more.

Reminds me of my Grandma's Handi!

I cooked dhal in it so far and it comes out great. I wanted a stainless steel interior so that I can cook food directly in the pressure pan instead of using a vessel in the case of aluminium . The lid is tight as mentioned by reviewers. Those who have used prestige pressure cookers know that we have to apply little pressure on top of the lid while closing it especially new cookers. After a few uses it loosens up a bit, maybe the gasket plays a role in this. But this cooker' s lid is tight, I have to fight it with every time.

But the lid needs some review by the manufacturer. Hope it becomes easier to close in my future use of the cooker. Hope Amazon looks into this by letting the manufacturer and the retailer know about this issue and refund the customer.

It does not work. The lid closes and then it is impossible to remove it. Even though there is no pressure in the cooker, the lid still would not open. It takes a lot of force to get the stuck lid open. Totally not usable product and i do not know how to even return it to the seller without paying high shipping cost.
