My take on this slim book case.
The access to the volume control buttons and power/sleep button are extremely difficult to access, well it isn't something you want to do often.
The problem is the Pro 8.4 is a very slim device, the hardshell back is very form fitting offering little access thru the hardshell via of the cut outs, a normal problem in this form factor, the problem is made worst in the case book design in that it has an edge overhang being a "book", this adds to the problem and doesn't help as it further blocks the finger from the openings. The setback of the hardshell from the book edge is advised as offering protection, which it does, but it neatly ignores that the edge of the cover jetting out adds to the access problem that the shell already has.
The front cover doesn't lay flat after use, the fold of the front cover isn't as floppy as seen in a slim case, especially when you have tried to use the front cover as a stand. There is an elastic band on the outer part of the front cover edge that can be flipped and pulled around the back to secure the front and back covers of the case, to make sure it stays closed. This is a must, If the device is using the Smart Case feature, it is clear to me the cover could bounce up and down, causing an ON and Off of the device, draining the battery.
As for using it as a stand, the cover bending back to go under the back flap is cumbersome to tuck in to make a stand, getting it to stay is iffy, worst, the Pro will not stand up.
You can get it to balance in this position, and I do mean balance, it is a balancing act, in the stand mode, you get the feeling the center of gravity is high, it is very unstable. It will sit using the stand, but any bump, screen touch will flip it.
I don't care that the spine of the cover doesn't allow the case to lay flat while holding in the hand, you are holding a wedge, it has the feel of holding a real book with the cover folded back in the hand and has the same wedge problem when on the table. The table solution here is not to leave the cover folded back when laying it down, but lay it down like an open book, or mess with sliding the cover under that flap to make an angled typing postion.
The case isn't badly made, just not functional, I wished I had ordered the slim case over this slim book case.
I will say the Smart Cover feature works well.

The only negatives:
- The volume buttons are not easy to access in the case. Someone had mentioned this in another review I read before I purchased, but I bought it anyway. It isn't that big a deal but it is a little annoying.
- The magnets used to activate the sleep/wake don't hold the case shut like some cases. Could use a strap to do this.
Overall the case functions (and fits) well and it looks good.
