You won't find a biography here, but those of us who love Poe already know it and those who don't will be able to find satisfying bios on the web. The only true negative that kept me from giving this 5 stars is the lack of annotations for various foreign phrases. The other inexpensive Poe collections appear to suffer the same omission but nonetheless, it would have been nice. Definition annotations remain as with most Kindle books.
For me, this Poe compendium gives the opportunity to revisit all the stories I read many years ago at a price that is unbeatable. I don't regret the choice and am happy to stop agonizing over it.
It's been helpful, and educational, for me to read on Kindle because of the dictionary for antiquated words, or familiar words that have different connotations now. I say this as someone with a large vocabulary and as someone reasonably familiar with Elizabethan vocabulary.
The big surprise for me was his humor; Poe can be one sarcastic guy. I haven't read them all but so far only a handful are the expected horror stories.
