Detailed Description:

Upgrade:

This SATA solid-state (SSD) or hard drive (HDD) adapter lets you upgrade to an external 2.5" SATA SSD or HDD.

The cable lets you:

Add drive space
Perform backups
Create disk images
Implement data recovery
Transfer content between the drive and the laptop

Connecting the Hard Drive

Once the cable has been attached to a computer, and the necessary software will automatically install, and the drive will be accessible as though it were installed within the system.

Prior to using the drive, it will need to be formatted according to your operating system requirements.

The hard drive adapter requires no external power supply and can power from USB Bus to which it is connected

Disconnecting the Hard Drive

1. Select the “Safely remove Hardware and Eject Media” icon, located in the task bar.

2. Select the USB Storage Device from the list that appears.

3. Wait for the message indicating that it is now safe to remove the device.

To safely disconnect the attached drive

click on the USB storage icon on the desktop, and drag it to the Trash Can icon on the desktop. Safely remove the Drive after 5 secs

Installation Procedure

Connect the SATA Connector to the SATA reciprocal on your 2.5” SATA hard drive/ solid state drive.
2. Connect the USB connector from the cable to a USB port on the host computer system
Note: optimal perfomance with USB 3.0, backward compatibile with USB 2.0/1.1).

works out of the box on windows 10 for cloning internal SSD

i was upgrading an internal SSD, and had to clone the disk to avoid re-installing OS and all the software again. the first problem i ran into was that my new disk was not initialized. i had to do this explicitly and took some time to figure that out. next, cloning as -is will recreate a partition of the same size of the older/smaller SSD. Using AOMEI backupper, i was able to expand the size of the partitions on the larger disk. the cable itself worked like a charm and i would strongly recommend it for anyone wanting to use a SATA hard drive, either to clone or use as an external drive.

NOTE: This is not a paid review. This is just an honest review about the first impressions. I bought this from the seller: Discount Bazaar India.

Build Quality:
10/10 - The cable is thick and sturdy. Plastic used for the SATA connector looks strong.

Looks:
10/10 - Yes, looks does matter to me when it comes to electronics. This connector doesn't look cheap at all. The LEDs enhances the look further.

Connectivity:
10/10 - I bought this connector to access data stored on my spare laptop HDD. There were no issues in getting my HDD detected by my OS.

Data Transfer Speed:
10/10 - Rated it 10 as I did get a decent transfer rate of ~52 MB/sec (screenshot attached) for my 10yr old SATA laptop HDD. I had plugged it into my motherboard's USB 3.1 Gen 2 port. However, I can't judge the transfer rates as it's purely subjective and is dependent on the storage media. Didn't try it with an SSD. I'll update the review when I try it out. But overall its really good.

Warranty:
I got a 15 months extended warranty after I registered my product at their website. Don't know how to claim the warranty though. I hope I don't get to claim it.

Verdict:
If you're looking for a good quality connector for your SATA drives (2.5 inch HDDs and SSDs only) then this is the one. The product was carefully packed and they even provided a small sling bag to store the connector. It also came with a USB cover, which in my opinion is rare in computer accessories and peripherals. Kudos to the manufacturer as little things do matter (at least to me).

Please DO NOT buy this if you want to connect your Desktop Hard Drive (i.e. 3.5 inch HDDs). It won't work. The have a separate connector specifically for 3.5 inch HDDs. They have clearly mentioned in the description.

Great tool for making portable SSD backup drives

Its really good and easy to use tool. Just snap it on your existing SSD, connect to USB port and viola you are all set. It's compatible with SATA interface SSDs and can be used for transferring data and also for booting via usb on your externally connected SSD (provided you have setup the os image properly or are doing a fresh install). Its a good tool and if you buy a proper enclosure for your ssd or sshd, this connector can be used to make a portable external storage device. Its a must buy for anyone planning on doing transfers over conventional SSDs or using them for booting up but they can't replace the internal HDD. Also the quality of the cable is quite and sturdy and I would definitely recommend buying this.

Works nicely with low capacity drives such as 250GB and 500GB. Doesn't detect 3.5 inch drives of 2TB capacity. Seagate Barracuda 2TB makes "squeak... squeak.... squeak..." noise because it fails to reach operational RPM with the power adapter that is provided in the package. Build quality is good, but internal functioning is not good - a hallmark of all generic China products. Thanks to Amazon for returning my money.

Works as advertised. I had connected a 3 TB 3.5 hard disk to my laptop via this connector by PiBox. The whole process was self explanatory and pretty easy. The product just came in the morning and I am using it right now. It’s very easy to use and plus it almost works with any OS. It even worked with My Xbox One s and I was surprised by it. I think the quality is something that we should never compromise on and PiBox India doesn’t compromise on it plus they have a warranty registration for 12-6 months are you kidding me? You get a warranty too. It’s just more value that your spending on I think you should go for it with you even thinking twice.

--High Quality product
--Works as advertised.
--Has an asmedia controller.
--Works well with linux.
Now you actually do not need to depend on internal sata ports because you can literally get all the speed
you want from USB 3.0.
--You can run Linux on an external cheap SSD for anything you want.
--Getting 340 MBps(Megabytes per second) read, with a 0.16ms response on an old plextor SSD.
--Will test later with the RPi 4 to see what speeds I get there.
--Will work fine with 2.5 inch HDD, but truthfully you will not buy this to run an HDD.
--Looking forward to usb 3.1/2 and 4.0 devices in the future.
