Excellent shave! Couple of small drawbacks.

I have been using electric shavers for over 17 years, right from the time Braun popularised it. The shavers have improved a lot since those days. I switched from Braun to Philips almost 10 years ago and it has never let me down. The shave is quick, ultra smooth and hassle-free. The great advantage is that you can have a quick drive shave even after you have dressed up to go out.
So why cut the stars? Two problems... Read on.
First is that it does not come with a stand. All my Philips shavers as well as trimmers from the past came with a stand, so I didn't specifically look for its presence in the Amazon listing. The charging stand would have made it easy to dry the shaver after use, allow it to take less space and keep you from forgetting to charge. Unfortunately my old Philips shaver stands also did not work with it.
The second problem is the battery. This one uses a NiMH battery that takes 8 hrs charging to give 30 mins charge. The model with the Lithium battery that gives 50 mins on an hour of charging or one shave with just 3 mins charging costs significantly more. This may be an issue if you tend to travel and is not regular with keeping the shaver charged. The missing charging stand mentioned above does not help in this regard.
30 mins may not seem like a lot of charge. But fact is that a normal shave would take hardly a couple of mins. So with a full charge you could use it for 1-2 weeks. Just make sure you charge, say, every Sunday and before travels.
I haven't figured out if the blades are available as spares in Philips Centers or elsewhere. The main reason I changed my previous Philips shaver is that the blades became blunt after about 3 years of daily use.
A tip if you are using or plan to use an electric shaver for the first time. Your skin needs to get used to the shaver. In the initial days, do wet shave with shaving foam and use an after shave to avoid skin irritations. You don't need to move the head too many times over the same region. Just do steady round motions and make sure you cover all parts of your bearded area. After a while you can slowly switch to water shave and then to dry shave. Cleaning the shaver head by opening and showing it to running water after each shave will help keep skin irritations away. I prefer shaving daily as the stubbles will be light and it will be smoother and quicker to get a clean shave.
Once you get used to the convenience of an electric shaver it is difficult to go back to the traditional razors! Hope the review helps you make a decision.
