1. The book is a good try by the author. It is a decent first step for a Poet.
2. To me the poems feel like its been written by an amateur. The correct audience for this book is teens between 10 - 15.
3.I dont quiet get the idea behind the pictures in the book. They could have been avoided and real estate could have been used for some other poems.
2/5 from me for the effort.
blurb - gives about the types of poems that are in the book.
The book consists of pictures inside this book accompanying each poem. Poems are in rhyme scheme. Based on friendship, phases of life, marriage, feelings, holding on, letting go, loneliness and all that we cannot weave in words. The poems are effective and relatable. The length of the poems are mostly long. Instead of the pictures illustrations would look better. The book is a less than a hours refreshing read. The poems i really liked are - teenage, little lonely heart, heart and brain, vicious life and memories.
All the poems are relatable and consist of depth, lightness in them. A refreshing read delving you into a little more meaning of life.
Book Review: Phases of Moon: A poetic journey of a girl
by Neha Jindal
Title: Phases of Moon: A poetic journey of a girl
Author: Neha Jindal
Phases of Moon is the poetic voyage of a girl. It covers many topics related to woman and life such as marriage, innocence, love, feelings and teenage. The poems are made to rhyme. There are relatable pictures for each poem. The book is divided into three parts i.e. Teenage Shower, Tied the Knot and Emotions Unleashed. The first part talks about the early lives of women which are filled with love, infatuations, the extraordinary emotions and sentiments felt for the special one and everything related to being a teenager. Whereas the second portion of the book covers the topic of marriage which plays a main role in women’s life. The love she feels for her soul mate, the entry of a child and other new things that she must accept wholeheartedly are exposed poetically in this section. The third and final fragment deals solely with feelings and women’s state of mind.
This collection of poems can be read within an hour. It is a short read. The language is too simple and is best apt for beginners in poetry reading. Rhyme scheme has been used which adds to the beauty of the verses. The main theme discussed is about the changing life roles and suppressed emotions of women. The title suits well with the content as a woman’s existence and lifecycle is like the different phases of moon. Plus, the cover is strikingly attractive. However, the work seems to be amateurish and insufficient as the words used are really basic and plain. The charm that one tends to feel in poetry is missing. A little refinement and alteration of words would make this work better. For novices who want to learn about rhyming poetries, you can go for this book.
My Rating: 2/5 Stars
An innocent voice full of ignorance,
Asked me, pointing towards the moon.
"Oh dear Ma, look over there,
A big fat egg, on the tree sits over there.
You toil to get a single one,
But I guess that egg is not less than a ton."
You may be independent and may have had wings,
But there is no song of yours, that you can sing.
Lend your ears to us and do keep your voice low,
Don't rebel to our words, I think you should know.
The book - as the tagline says, brings forth the different stages of a girl's life. Added to this, I also felt that there were some poems on other themes as well, such as the poem on 'memories'.
What could have been improved upon - The author has tried to keep the poem rhythmic, which feels forced at some places. Deeper tresses of emotions could have been tapped and explored.
A soothing read.
The book is a nice effort and the poems are simple and are in rhyme. Though the feelings captured are genuine, however, the work seems a little amateurish which need a bit more polishing. However, the efforts that the poetess has put into penning them must be applauded.
The cover page is highly engrossing but somehow I felt it should have been more Indian in style. The inside images also didn’t gel with the book. Either they should have been omitted or illustrations should have been used instead of images.
The title is very nice and apt considering the theme of the book.
Overall the book is a decent effort by the poetess and hope to read some amazing poems by her in future.
