I was using Iphone 5s for almost 4 years(After 2 months it would have been 4th year anniversary for 5s).
Iphone 5s served its purpose, but after heavy usage, body damage and battery problems it died in December, 2017.
I was looking for a new Smartphone. My first choice was Iphone 8 , cause I am familiar to iOS and it was a best device offered by Apple after
Iphone X. But price of Iphone 8 64 GB was in the range of 55K – 60K. Big thing to take into consideration that design is similar to its
predecessor (only difference was glass back to enable wireless charging) and features wise bit up gradation from predecessor.
Now quest was begin to find a device which is value for its price.
Started watching YouTube videos of tech bloggers. They were all praising OnePlus 5T for features it is providing and the price label.
I was bit sceptical about android operating system. Heard various users saying about their devices that they hang, they get slow down after a
time, late software and security updates. It was confusing to pick a device.
Best device in android was Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. These devices were facing criticism for their display and other software related problems.
The price of these devices also starts from 50k. I could not take a risk to buy a device which is facing all these problems.
Finally after calculating all the scenarios decided to order OnePlus 5T – 8 GB RAM – 128 GB storage on 4th December, 2017.
Device arrived on 6th December 2017.
1. OnePlus 5t

Set up all the information and face unlock

FAST FORWARD TO 6 MONTHS:
After using the device for six months I can talk about the device adequately.
Device is running on Android 8.1 Oreo, Oxygen OS 5.1.2 and security patch level May 1, 2018.
In this department OnePlus was consistent and provided regular updates.
RAM optimization is so good that if you leave an app in certain condition comeback to that app after some time you will notice that it is same as
Oxygen Os provides some nifty features such as night mode, reading mode, gaming mode, battery saver, parallel apps, app locker etc. These
all things come in handy and I use them most of the time.
OnePlus provided navigation gestures kind of like Iphone X. After enabling it I don’t like to go to navigation buttons. I am quite used to it now.
Due to Software Optimization and top of the line processor of 2017- Snapdragon 835 (provided by Qualcomm) battery can last a whole day
with moderate to heavy usage
2. CAMERA PERFORMANCE:
Device has rear dual cameras, one is 16MP with aperture f/1.7 and another one is 20 MP with aperture f/1.7.
Rear camera does a good job in good lighting conditions. HDR picks up long range of colours and details in the picture. Portrait mode is hit and
a miss. Sometimes you get a portrait with good edge detections and sometimes edges are not defined enough. 20 MP lens is for low light
conditions but pictures are okay-ish in low light conditions.
For video capturing it offers 4k, 1080P at 60FPS, 1080P and & 720P resolutions. There is no OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) only EIS
(Electronic Image Stabilization). EIS does a good job but as there is no OIS when you move the camera in 4k you will observe some frames are
lagging. So I like to shoot videos at 1080P with 60 FPS resolution.
Pro mode offers you control on ISO, shutter speed, focus and white balance. You can also take pictures in RAW format.
Slow motion is only available in 720P. So cannot take high quality slo-mo video.
Time lapse in available in both 1080P and 720P.
Now let’s talk about front camera. Front camera is 16 MP with f/2.0 aperture. It can take good selfies but angle is not wide enough so you have
to stretch your hands to capture all the people into frame. It has beauty mode which enhances your facial features to take a good selfie but i
find it bit cartoon- y. So beauty mode is always turned off in my device. Front camera can capture videos in 1080P & 720P resolutions. EIS
helps to stabilize the video but quality of front camera is good not great.
5T has 6.01 inches Optic AMOLED 18:9 display. Screen to body ratio is 80.5 percent. From my time spend with device I found display is crisp
and accurate. There is no blue color shift issue on tilting. Display is big enough to enjoy video content and read books.
It has various screen calibration such as Default, sRGB, DCI-P3, Adaptive mode, Custom Colour. You can calibrate screen as per your
preference. My screen calibration is DCI-P3 because i feel colours are punchy and have a good contrast in this mode.
There is ambient display option which lets you know of the notifications and time as you lift the device without unlocking, which is quite handy
in my opinion.
4. FACE UNLOCK & FINGER PRINT SCANNER:
Face unlock uses selfie camera to do a 2D scan of your face and store it. Whenever you want to unlock your device you just need to look at it.
Face unlock is really fast, OnePlus said that they clocked the face unlock, it took only 0.07 seconds to scan and unlock (not fast than fingerprint
scanner). It is very much accurate too. I think 8/10 times it let me unlock my device without putting a finger on scanner or typing
Face unlock works in low light too. You need to enable Face Unlock assistive lighting from settings. It lights up your display so selfie camera
can see your face in low light and recognizes you.
Fingerprint scanner is located ergonomically just above middle. It is distinguish from back.
Fingerprint scanner is faster than face unlock, OnePlus claims that fingerprint scanner only take 0.02 seconds to scan and unlock. It is more
accurate. Mostly it works for me. I haven’t had any problem unlocking device using fingerprint scanner.
Fingerprint scanner also support some gestures like 1) if you swipe downward it pull down notification tray 2) While clicking pictures you can
take photos by only holding finger on fingerprint scanner for few seconds.
5. BATTERY & DASH CHARGER:
OnePlus 5T comes with 3300 mAh battery which is not great in number but due to software optimization and full HD resolution display, the
device can last a whole day with heavy to moderate usage.
Device comes with a 5 Volt and 4 Ampere power brick with a USB type-C cable. OnePlus call this mechanism a Dash Charger.
OnePlus claims that It can charge your device from 0% to 63% in just 30 minuites.
Dash Charger comes in handy when you have less time to charge and head to somewhere.
I don’t charge my device more than an hour. In an hour battery is upto 80-85 % which kind of last me whole day with heavy to moderate usage.
6. ALERT SLIDER:
Alert slider is very handy when you instantly want to turn your device to Silent, Do not disturb and Ring.
It is textured button so you can identify it easily.
Iphone has similar thing which is mute switch. You can only mute your device in it.
OnePlus 5T comes with a downward firing mono-speaker which can turn pretty loud. But you can block it with your palm while playing a game
or watching a video.
Notification light is a good thing I have noticed in Android. If your device is in silent you can notice from blinking notification light that you have
notifications. You can also assign a color to a certain app’s notifications.
Call quality have been good but few times I had this problem- when I am talking on a call suddenly sound from other person get muted, I have
to disconnect and call again.
Signal reception is good and LTE speeds are also up to the mark.
You get a device which is leveling to flagship ones but without digging a big hole in your pocket.
The best thing about this phone is that it's price range does not change drastically and the features it offers in its orice range is worth every penny you put in.
The camera built in is good and is over hyped for the portrait mode which surely needs an improvement from dslr user's preserpective. This is because the bokeh effect they are claiming about is not indeed the natural one. Its just a workaround. Otherwise, the colors are pure and virbant. Eith minor tweaks, you can get a sturdy camera.
The sound is quite moderate but clear. As we know, the speakers wont be loud in premium flagships.
The battery is very good but, I crave for more with every release. The build quality is certainly the best selling point. The have such a premium finish, that you 'll die fir the looks.
I am certainly an anti-apple guy who knows the iphone is quality but will always fall for one plus for its beast like features at 1/4 the cost of an high end iphone.
Go for the new OP 6 or wait for 6+ , the device never disappoints

I like to give honest feedback as I expect one such when buying online.
1. Amazing performance (AnTuTu score is 200K+)
2. Phenomenal battery life (roughly 7 hours of screen-on time)
3. Dash Charge is a blessing (1 hour 15 minutes for 0% to 100%)
4. Great camera for price
5. Future-proof with BT 5.0.
6. Super clean software with no bloatware
7. Excellent video stability in 30fps
8. Excellent face identification
1. Screen loses a lot of contrast in bright daylight and this causes inaccurate colour in such a condition
2. Body is very slippery, although it is slim and light
3. Camera has an average dynamic range with only 720p@120fps for slow motion
4. "Intelligent Pixel Technology" isn't really effective
5. Speaker distorts a little from about 80% volume
6. The software navigation bar doesn't adjust colour properly to certain apps like Reddit when you use dark mode
Although there are a fair amount of cons, I really enjoy using it as my daily driver.
