About the Author
Dr. S O Pillai with a total teaching experience of thirty eight years had the privilege of serving as Reader and Professor in the last twenty two years in the main campus of Anna University, Chennai. The healthy interactions with both BE and MSc students brought him blossom. This provided him the opportunity of preparing hand-written manuscripts with a view to bring out one or two textbooks in due course. The strength gained during the said period made him to continue the art of writing even after his retirement in 1998. He succeeded in bringing out more than half a dozen textbooks during the period 2000–2012. Two more books are under preparation.
Pillai guided many MPhil and MSc students in their projects and two of them earned the PhD degree. About 45 research papers with single authorship in the field of Ultrasonics and Materials Science and a valuable citation from the Governor of Tamil Nadu congratulating Pillai for his voluntary blood donation for fifteen times are some of his notable contributions.
The feedback from his students in appreciation of Pillai’s dedication, sincerity and his own methodology adopted in teaching the students without affiliation to caste, community and creed fetched him Dr. Radha Krishnan’s Best Teacher Award for the year 1989—1990.
Dr. S. Gnanasekaran, Ph..D., is Professor, Department of Physics, Anna University, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He has over 28 years of experience in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
