I've owned a few cases as well - some of the most popular ones available on Amazon, and the looks and reviews vs price of this case caught my attention. At $9.99, it is low risk.
The case is NOT easy to disassemble (a must to install the phone), but not quite as hard to put back together. If you have long finger nails, there is a high chance you will break a couple of them in the process. You might even become frustrated. On first installation, the volume down and power buttons were not making proper contact; literally dysfunctional. This posed a problem to me as I often use the power button to save battery power, and if I inadvertently hit the volume up button (which happens all the time), notifications, system prompts and ringtones are extremely loud. To lower the volume, I would therefore have to go into sounds and manually adjust the volume for the specific tasks. That's a pain to do 4 or 5 times a day.
The clear plastic screen protector which is pre-installed on the inner lining of the case is poor. Even with touch sensitivity increased, there was as much as 50% reduced response when I have to type or make selections. Maybe this was an impairment as I have a glass screen protector installed already. But prior to buying this case, I had used the same screen protector and worn gloves with a significantly lower "hit or miss" rate of 20%. Apart from the shoddy clear plastic, it looked cheap and did not rest perfectly level onto the screen, thereby making some parts of the screen difficult to see from certain angles especially under glary conditions. Fortunately, the flimsy film of plastic was glued in from the inside of the inner lining, so a sharp tip knife or object could be pried and you can remove it without any impact to the aesthetics. Make that the first thing you do - take it off; it is worthless.
Having done that, I thought I would re-install the phone and see if removing the screen protector would be of any benefit before I totally condemned the case. I was much more satisfied, and oddly enough, the volume down and power buttons were making proper contact, and response and functionality were 100% restored.
The case is a little heavy. You will especially feel the heft once the phone is installed. It's also thicker and bigger than most others I have used, but the protection it provides is impeccable. If you are in the habit of sticking your phone in your pockets, you will feel a notable difference with how much space it consumes, especially if you wear tight clothes. And, if you are concerned with appearances, it's not the most discreet or slick looking case if you have to pull out your phone in a business meeting for note-taking, etc.. I liken it's appearance to that of Iron Man's Mark42 edition of his suit which transforms from an inconspicuous object to something else completely.
If you use a dashboard mount/holder for driving, this case will prove a challenge for most of the large sized units to have a good grip on your phone with this case installed. I would have preferred a kickstand with this case as the heft of the phone wears on if you are a heavy user.
The case has very good grip. For the short time I have had it, it has not slipped from my hands AT ALL, unlike some of the popular ones I own.
I have no doubt this offers excellent protection. The tabs/ports for charging and using headphones are not pull-out like most others; pry it open - not much effort required and plug in. It will naturally reshape itself into place when you remove whatever attachments you're using.
One last point about the looks and style of this case - while providing excellent protection, it covers all semblance of the brand of the phone, and completely masks the sleek, prestigious look of the Galaxy Note 4. Be prepared to give up on the whole "image" of what the Note 4 represents.
Also, if you use a genuine Samsung qi charging cover or generic qi adapter, there is no way this case will bring the phone within close enough proximity for qi charging. So, give up on that too.
With the rigidity of this case and it's tough materials, you are assured of protection from many forms of damage, nicks and scratches - except water.
For what it does at its low price, the case is definitely the toughest I have owned; just be prepared to lose out on some of the conveniences of a slimline housing because this case is anything but slim.
1. It came with a screen protector which I already had
2. When I got it it was hard to take it appart. I actually had to put pressure from the back on the camera holes to push the screen protector to see if it helped. It didnt. And I think i ruined the screen protector because my phone has a hard time being a touch screen.
3. Can't lower the volume.
4. Can't use the sides of the phone to replay a youtube video
All in all its okay you get what you pay for. It feels good, it's not slippery as some people say, and it looks durable. But comparing this to my last phone case, which costed me $20: this was a bit of a waste
so on my third day with this case I was about to give up and throw it away. Then i thought that maybe gettig rid of the built in screen protector might make me a bit satisfied and it sure did!
By taking the screen-protector out, everything alligned perfectly. Now I dont have problems with the volume buttons, the power button works perfectly everything is alligned in its proper place, the mics, everything.
I am now giving it a five for 2 main reasons:
1. I guess the problem I had was not really with the built in screen protector (even though it is cheaply made and it can scratch easily) because i didnt order this case for the screenprotector because my note 4 already had one. So putting the one that came with this case on top of the one my phone already had, made it have problems in the alignment (a .0001 of an inch could always make a difference) so I really didnt care about the screen protector anyways so that's not a loss for me.
2. I work in residental plumbing, running undergrounds, etc and dirt ALWAYS gets on my phone! But i am gratly satisfied with this case because it also protects my headphone jack and the charging port so to me this is a great product.
I've already tested this case by dropping it about 6ft away from the ground really fast and it passed the test, so to me it's a big 5
