4.0 out of 5 stars Read once before you buy
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 2 October 2022
The packaging was good from outside, but the seller had filled the box with waste paper, old magazine and old cardboard as reinforcement to the lens package. This is still fine.
Coming to the actual lens package, the top seal was NOT broken, but the bottom seal was broken and seems like the package was open from the bottom.
I still went ahead and opened the lens just to see the lens cap was open both front and back and the cap was loosely fallen within the bubble rap. (See the attached images)
And on the part where the luns gets attached to the camera, I see some dirt and grease on it.
All the says the packing was hampered and was repacked after use.

I did a basic test with the lens and did not find and functionality issues, will be testing it more and updating my comment

Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 12 March 2022
The aperture ring is slightly damaged. The produvt is quite old also. It is imported on August 2018 which is 3.5 years ago. The box is slightly damaged as well. Overall quite a bad buying experience.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must to have for wildlife photography
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 7 August 2018
I think this is a must go for lens for all those who are into wildlife photography.
Pros:
1. The enormous focal length at almost an affordable range. (EMI Options are available). Particularly when you have an APS-C sensor camera.
2. AF is quick and responsive.
Cons:
1. Very heavy and one can participate in body building after continued usage. Tripod recommended.
2. The focus ring takes a complete 180 round from 200 to 500, which is slightly annoying.

Amazon's Service: Excellent delivery. Got it the next day.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm lovin' it!!!
Reviewed in India 🇮🇳 on 16 January 2017
After using 3rd party lenses for a long time, I made the decision to switch over to this lens. And boy, ain't I glad I made the switch? There is a vast difference in the image quality. The f 5.6 is a just apt for making beautiful images at a long end 500 mm. This is a perfect lens for birding and wildlife. The AF works fast enough to capture swift movements of a bird in flight. At long end (500 mm), it renders a sharp focus and lovely bokeh to create beautiful images of seemingly tiny birds.

In all, a must buy for enthusiasts (provided you use a Nikon body)!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic lens, well worth the money
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 31 October 2016
I enjoy my wildlife photography and although I was getting some decent shots with my 80-400mm, I wanted to fill the viewfinder that bit more. I have been really impressed with the results using this lens, that extra 100mm has made a big difference. The VR is very effective and the autofocus is quick; I had read some reports saying autofocus was a bit slow, but it seems fine with my D810. The lens is a bit heavy, but I've managed to carry it around for over 5 miles without any bother (I'm in my early 60s). The biggest problem I've had is getting a holster that can carry it and the camera, I've settled on a Think Tank one at the moment, but its not ideal as the lens will not fit in with the hood on (this is a wide hood and even reversed will not fit in the bag). To give an idea of quality, the image of the pigeon was the first test shot I took. I was in my garden, the bird was on the apex of the roof; the image is cropped at 100% yet is still quite sharp (500mm f8 @ 1/400th ISO200).

All in all I'm very happy with the lens and consider it money well spent.

Spent the whole day with this yesterday (25/07/17), was surprised to find it attached to my camera most of the day out at south lakes safari park. You will get a lot of looks and comments walking around with this thing on, but its light enough that i didnt use a monopod at all and the 5.6 still delivered some really nice bokeh, i'll admit i set myself up for the day with the ISO set to auto but limited it to 1000. This covered my shots perfectly and got a lot of sharp images. with no motion blur, the VR helps a lot when hand held. I love this lens, its a beast and given some of the competitors prices a bargain for the we pay.
