I don't know how to describe my fellings without spoileres. So, I only say this: Never ever read this serie.
Don't lost your time or your Money.
There were numerous things that I did not like about the story. For one, the drama was over the top and at the same time, snooze worthy. The story dragged in places. I kept putting it down and had to force myself to finish it, which is a typical for me. The bad guys were over the top and their behavior unrealistic. It was like watching a cheap melodrama.
Also story was lacking in passion. Nick and Megan’s chemistry was non-existent and there was none with Zander either.
I was highly disappointing in some of the characters’ behavior in this book. Among other things at times it was inconsistent with how they previously acted.
SPOILERS INCLUDED BELOW
In the two other books I liked Nick and Megan. They were resilient, withstanding the many challenges put before them and never giving up on each other. They were passionate and I could feel their love for each other. In this book, not so much.
Megan was whiny, stubborn, unlikable and had some tstl moments, some involving Zander. Megan slept with Zander, the former villain, not because she had to, like in the prior books but because she wanted to. She did it when they were out of danger, when all conflicts were resolved. She said she wanted to feel- so lame. What about her supposed love for Nick? Their prior love for each other was totally absent in this story. They had zero chemistry and zero sexy times. The few lovemaking scenes were lackluster and tedious, including when she slept with Zander. No hotness.
I will admit to being disappointed in Nick as well. One of the things that I loved about Nick was that he was steadfast in his loyalty to Megan. He made countless sacrifices for her in the first two books and never gave up in looking for her when she was being held in captivity. Then my high opinion of him took a nosedive in this story. It is revealed that Nick slept with Megan’s sister, Thea, when Megan was being held and raped by Zander the first time. I felt like puking when I read that he slept with her sister. It left a bad taste in my mouth and I thought less of him. It was disappointing.
What is worse, it was revealed in an anticlimactic fashion as was the fact that Megan slept with Zander. Near the end of the story Nick tells Megan that there is something that he has to tell her. Megan responds that she already knows that he slept with her sister, that Zander told her. No confrontation or talking about it and how she felt about it. She apparently has gotten over it. It is a non-issue. Then Megan tells Nick that she slept with voluntarily slept Zander. Nick says he figured that she did. No big deal. Easy come easy go. What the heck? Where is the passionate response? How is this not upsetting? How is their romance believable in the least that unfaithfulness and having intercourse with the other’s sibling a non-issue? I have very little confidence that they will be together forever. Their relationship is too lacking in passion. Minus the lackluster loving making it is more like they are friends or siblings. Their behavior and lack of reactions to same, is not conducive to an enduring and happy romantic relationship.
Lets talk about Zander. The villain from the first two books that not only rapes and kidnaps Megan, repeatedly and for years but also holds Nick hostage and rapes him as well. Now Zader is the kinder and gentler villain. He is reformed to a point. He no longer rapes but gently makes love to Megan near the end of the story. Yet another puke worthy moment. If the series continues then I have no doubt that Zander will be back as the door was left open. It was not goodbye to Megan but rather I will see you later. Well it is goodbye for me. I am done with this series. Easy come, easy go.
Well done, Devon Ashley! You really set the bar with this one! If you haven't read this series, it's a MUST.
I thank God that I only had to live the horrors of sexual slavery through the pages of a book and have never been subjected to it first-hand. Human trafficking and sexual slavery exists and is a growing concern. I applaud you in your attempt to put a face to this horrific issue!!
