If you are new to this field, then you might get some tastes.
This book contains great examples with MATLAB codes.
I would say this is a good book as reference, but not as textbook.
There are other books which provide better insight into control design that have just as much MATLAB support. Books by Sigurd Skogestad and Graham Goodwin on control design are much better and have MATLAB codes. For those interested in optimal control (which is usually synonymous with modern control), books written by Robert Stengel and Brian Anderson are some good and cheap texts.
