I came across M.A.X. Muscle Plan in FitnessRx magazine (when I still paid for their article reprints and advertisements...) and cautiously ordered the book to try something new. (Background: did CF for a while, moved to CF Football, moved to mostly my stuff).
This book is legit. I stayed on the plan all the way through even missing days here and there (sometimes 4 days in a row) and I developed physical form in the upper body like I never have before. My wife asked me to stop because I was getting "too big." (relative term I know... I'm a big guy already and I really packed on the muscle with this plan). Had I combined real healthy eating with this plan, the results would have been much better. I also learned a few different lifts.
This book is not as much for functional fitness as it is for an advanced way to scientifically develop muscle - and Brad does a really impressive job with that. I'm very happy.
Yes, you are pretty much getting a workout plan and some nutritional advice, but I remain a satisfied customer even though I only wanted the plan. I didn't want, need, or even read the other stuff, but the workout plan is legit.
That all being said, this book is meant for the average person that doesn't have injuries or other health problems. If you have an existing injury or health problem you'll have to figure out how to work around it or get yourself a personal trainer who hopefully understands and utilizes all the concepts outlined in this book
