Description for Marantz SR7009 9.2 Network Home Theater A/V Receiver
Marantz SR7009 9.2 Network A/V Receiver Packed with the latest audio and video technologies, the Marantz SR7009 sets new standards for audio and video performance, and includes Dolby Atmos decoding, letting you experience the ultimate theater sound experience right in your own home. Now found in premium cinemas around the world, the revolutionary Dolby Atmos system delivers the ultimate audio experience by expanding the soundstage via the use of overhead speakers (or with compatible Dolby Atmos speakers), allowing pinpoint imaging of every sound in the movie soundtrack to be precisely positioned in exactly the same way as found in a commercial Dolby Atmos theater. Delivering 125 watts per channel, the SR7009 features 9 discrete high current power amplifier channels that are all rated to drive regular 8 ohm speakers and lower impedance 4 ohm speakers, and the SR7009 features multiple pre-amp outputs that let you connect external power amplifiers to drive additional speakers in the main room as well as drive more speakers elsewhere in the home. The video processing section is our most advanced, with full 4K Ultra HD compatibility, including the ability to handle high frame rate 4K/60 Hz content, and there's also full 4K Ultra HD upscaling for HD sources and even SD sources, and the SR7009's video processor also includes the full suite of ISF video calibration controls for studio quality video right in your home.

That said, it has some massive bugs in the firmware department. In my case I can't get the Atmos update to download at all, and my volume overlay refuses to display on 4 of my input channels no matter what I do (But does show up on my Apple TV for some reason). I have tried working with Marantz to correct the issue and they have been less than helpful and have stopped responding to me on 4 different chat sessions.
Their only suggestion is I send the hardware into them for up to 6-8 weeks to be "serviced". Never mind this means my entire home theater system would not work for that length of time. That is the sort of customer service I expect for a 200 dollar HTIB, not a receiver I paid over 2,000 dollars for.
Their customer service is glib and dismissive of issues. I would absolutely steer clear of Marantz. The core of the product (sound) is fantastic. Every other bit of this (firmware, overlay, updates, etc) feels like buggy crap that we all stopped putting up with in the 90s.
My quest landed me after a very long search to the Denon 5200 and the Marantz 7009. I think the Marantz is made a bit better even thou they are both the same Co. I finally bit the bullet and purchased the 7009 and I am very pleased. It sounds sweet , open and precise as well as an excellent balance of warmth and brightness with my B&W 804 main speakers. Setup was a breeze with the on screen tutorial ( using the 7.1.2 setup). I also purchased a pr. of the Onkyo Atmos ceiling firing speakers. thru Amazon and will probably get another set for the rear as Im not hearing the full benefit
of Dolby's new addition. The unit is built well with all the bells and whistles you could ever want or need. Well worth the extra money if you're looking in this range of this grade of audiophile equipment.
