Product Description

“There are rules that must be followed, Maggie.”
“Even in witchcraft?”
“Especially in witchcraft. What someone puts into the world comes back to them.”
“You mean karma?”
“Like karma, yes. But for a witch it comes back threefold. Never forget that.”
“That doesn’t seem fair.”
“Who said life was fair?”

In the second installment of The Daughters of Dark Root series, Maggie Maddock and her sisters are back, training under their coven-leading mother Miss Sasha Shantay to take over as the new leaders of The Council. But life isn’t as smooth as Maggie had hoped it would be. Harvest Home’s taxes have come due, and her mother’s illness has returned, stronger than ever.

Desperate, Maggie and Eve devise a scheme to make money through witchcraft.

And that’s when things go terribly wrong.

*Author's Note* This is the second book in a series but can be read as a stand alone novel. If you are interested in reading the entire Daughters of Dark Root Series I suggest you begin with The Witches of Dark Root as the second book contains spoilers for the first book.

I read the first book of this series and really enjoyed it, not being able to wait to read this second book! I love all of the characters in this book. They are so well-developed that I feel like I know them personally! It took me even less time to read this than the first one! I am hooked & can't wait read the next book!

I had rated the first book 4 stars because of grammatical errors. I was pleased to only see a few errors in this book, much less than the first!
4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive! 10 April 2016

It's been a good while since I read a novel that I started and couldn't put down. Like The Witches of Dark Root, Magick stuck with me from beginning to end. The story is intriguing, the laws of magick in this universe are different from witch stories I've normally seen, and the characters are very believable. Maggie is a very flawed but realistic protagonist. Other characters with certain flaws that I normally wouldn't find redeemable actually ended up growing on me, and that was interesting.

Just keep in mind when going into this that you're getting a very character-driven story, not an action-packed tale. If that's something that would interest you, I would absolutely recommend The Magick of Dark Root.

I love this series and can't wait for more! I'd been searching, in vain, for a new witch series since my favorite series had to suddenly end and with this series I've found it. I love the characters, they're fun, caring, and a delightful mess. I can't wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Intrigue, lies, secrets, magic....Join the Witches for an exciting read! 21 February 2015

If you like a good "learning to use your magic" story, this is series is for you. I always love a good Sister/Sibling angle, and April Aasheim doesn't disappoint. You get drawn into the characters, especially Maggie. There are times you want to just smack her, but she comes around. I would read this series again, probably even a third time. It was that enjoyable. :)

I was very leery at first this book wasn't the cute fun witch story I usually run into... I thought it was a well developed and believable story with multifaceted characters. I had trouble putting it down at times but when the story got too "calmed down" the paced picked up again. I really enjoyed reading it and immediately bought the second book. So far it's even better but you'll have to wait for the next review until I've finished this one....I sure hope the third book is available soon!
