I decided to get this, as it works as a basic mixer and amp. It performs well, and doesn't require much fooling with to get working. For whatever reason, it creates 2 jacks, mic, and stereo out. By default, windows tries to send sound out to the usb stereo jack, which does nothing. I just disabled that device. There's a simple switch to pick the amplification level - high, low, or medium. I use high because it has the least background noise. I can then turn down the input a bit on the PC and add a light digital noise filter to cut out the background static. The end result is quite acceptable. The mic I'm using is a very cheap unit, but this allows it to perform well.
The build quality is OK, but it's not the best. If the little nuts on the end get loose or over tightened, it kind of falls apart. The PCB is held in place by some very tiny screw clamps, so the main board isn't held in place too well. Also, the switch for low/med/high is very flimsy. I plan on just leaving it set to one mode and not touching it, so that's fine.
This device is great in on the field also, if you dont want to carry heavy mixing equipment, with you, it does the job. My friend got one also for Calibrating his Car Stereo System with a calibration microphone. The USB cable you can get at any store.
MXL makes the best Professional Audio. I've always used the MXL Microphone line in my Recording studio, the Mogami Cable line, and their interfaces, adapters.
I also use two of them simultaneously into separate USB ports, on same computer, for two channel stereo.
For those that have nothing better to do than complain, the package says "Cables not included" on the front, and that is Amazons fault for not showing picture of Mic Mate in it's see through package, or mentioning it.
It uses a type A to B printer USB cable. You can buy them for $1.00 on Amazon.
The instructions are on back of package.
BTW: I bought a couple new printers, one a HP, that didn't come with cable either. Didn't say anything on box about needing a cable.
So make sure you have a XLR M/F Cable, and a Standard Printer Cable
