About the Author
Kunal Verma is a film-maker and writer who has been professionally associated with the Armed Forces for more than two decades. Having flown in fighter planes, sailed on warships and operated with the Army in every nook and corner of the country, he has had an amazing ringside view of some of the most dramatic events in Indian history. Apart from filming the histories of the Air Force, the Navy and the Army, he has shot and produced The Standard Bearers (National Defence Academy), The Making of a Warrior (Indian Military Academy) and a host of other films. He is also the author of Ocean to Sky: India from the Air, The Northeast Palette and a book on the Assam Rifles.
As a company commander in the Jammy and Kashmir Light Infantry, Rajiv Williams participated in the famous battle fought on the Siachen Glacier. He subsequently went on to command that battalion and later joined the Indian Army's Liaison Cell which coordinated with the media during and after the Kargil War. In the post-Kargil period, he commanded the Drass Bridge, once again fighting specialized battles at heights of 17,000 feet in the Gultari sub-sector for which he was awarded the Yudh Seva Medal. After retirement he worked as the corporate head of the CSR department of Jindal Stainless. He has authored the book on his own regimental history and also the Indian Military Academy, he is a regular speaker on television and various other forums.
