About by copy it has beautiful illustration, the font size is big,and page quality is good but my only problem I thought it was published by Penguin but it seems to be published by Pigeon Books India - as a collector I am unhappy about the edition
The good news is that I have confirmed that this Wilco Classic Library edition contains the original 1943 translation by Katherine Wood (though it's nowhere mentioned in the book). Also, the book is bound in a very sturdy hardcover, which also has a ribbon bookmark (which sort of makes it look like some strange textbook).
The not-so-good news is that though the illustrations have been adapted from the original watercolor images, this edition introduces some unsightly hashing in the form of untidy black lines to represent the subtle shades of grey which detracts from the beauty of the originals (see the product images for a sample). The publishers should have atleast tried to print the images in greyscale to preserve the tone and shading. However, the pictures still manage to hold some charm, I believe, and for first time readers, it will still look appealing enough.
Final Verdict: okay, but could have been better. Look for a color edition if you want a book for your personal library to treasure.
Underlying tones of leaving someone you love, abuse, bonding, friendship, time, dreams, emotions, expressions and human fragility wrap up in an ending that any child can follow along which you can finish in one go.
Also bragging rights, because this makes for excellent captions. ;)
Have I convinced you enough to give it a chance? I don't know. I hope you did. And if for se reason you weren't able to today, please tell me why. I read every comment.
6/5. Extra marks for good drawing.
And there were some grammatical mistakes in the book which leads me to believe that it might be a fake.
Amazon should look into it if the books they are selling aren't fake
And those are in black and white here. Which is a total disappointment. I had order this after reading one that a friend had, with coloured pictures. And it makes all the difference. This rating is for the publisher and not the story. The story and its manner is very very special.
