Walter Isaacson is at once a true scholar and a spellbinding writer. And what a wealth of lessons there are to be learned in these pages' -- David McCullough `extremely accomplished and fluent biography of the ultimate Renaissance Man...While Isaacson gives full measure to the grandeur of Leonardo's project, he also deftly describes the human beneath the superhuman' * Culture Magazine, The Sunday Times * `lavish, loving biography of the great Renaissance polymath...this sumptuous, elegantly written and diligently produced offering that perfectly catches the contradictions of the man...[a] splendid work that provides an illuminating guide to the output of one of the last millenium's greatest minds' * The Observer * `In Isaacson, Leonardo gets the biographer he deserves - an author capable of comprehending his often frenetic, frequently weird quest to understand. This hardcover edition of the book is printed & produced in Italy - and in itself is a work of art. Superior production and print quality makes going through the book a pleasant experience. Many paintings, sketches and photographs are incorporated on the pages of this remarkable biography by an equally remarkable author.
A very highly recommended book to all the admirers and enthusiasts of Fine Arts & Science.
The book also gives account of his personal life. The real beauty of this book is all those color photographs of various renaissance era art like paintings and statues. The author also 'explains' these art works done by da Vinci and other contemporary artists. Isaacson also gives us context and background for each art work and tells us subtle nuances that differentiates that art work. Consider it as a quick and easy art appreciation course. The book is hard cover and printed on thick, good quality paper. In one of his interview the author tells us why he insisted on high quality printing. He said while writing book on Jobs they could not find many of his past emails written in 1990s. On the other hand Da Vinci has left some much of his writing behind and that is accessible even after 500 years because it is on the paper. He says he became believer in old technology like paper. I suggest the same to you. Do not buy kindle version. Buy paper copy for your collection. You will enjoy it more.
Anyway all these these color pictures on nice thick paper and their explanation by the author takes this book to different league altogether. This alone will ensure a permanent place for this book in your personal library.
I can strongly recommend this book to the students, artists, entrepreneurs, researchers, scientists and life long learners. They will get a lot out of this brilliant book. Parents should encourage their college going kids to read this book.
This is my second book after Steve Jobs Autobiography. Loved it !!
