I received my ThinkPad E14 the second day I placed the order. I bought it for around 54,800 INR. Let me tell you a bit about my previous laptops, I used a ThinkPad X240 for a bit more than 6 years. Believe it or not, the quality of that laptop was amazing, especially the keyboard. My ThinkPad X240 delivered on its promise. All I did was swap the HDD with a 240GB SSD. Probably what made the laptop last this long is that I used it along with a monitor and keyboard and a mouse.
In 2021, I bought an M1 MacBook Air, and hands down it is the best laptop for the money. It was the best in everything except I needed a windows laptop to get some things done like my office work. So, I decided to buy a secondary laptop with windows.
I saw so many models from diff OEMs but I settled on getting a ThinkPad as I found this deal on Amazon. For 55,000 INR, I was getting a good enough processor like AMD Ryzen 5600 with 8GB RAM and 512 GB SSD but I had to settle with a 1080P TN panel. Full HD resolution is more than sufficient but TN is considerably bad when you compare it with an IPS panel. Guys, Since I wanted to use this as my secondary laptop having a TN display is okay for me. But if you want to enjoy a movie or binge-watch some series on Netflix, TN displays are not the best to have. It is because of the viewing angles. Using this on an office table makes the display seem completely normal but try to watch a video on your bed or sitting in an awkward position, you cant see the whole image. I am not saying that this TN panel is hideous but IPS panels fees miles ahead for media consumption. This laptop has a display that is great for doing work and is okayish for watching movies.
AMD Ryzen 5600 with Radeon graphics is more than capable for my usage and I use this for my data analytics projects. I upgraded the RAM to 24GB and added another 250GB SSD. It cost me around 10,000 INR for the upgrades. Now, with 65,000 INR, I have a very capable laptop that can get things gone.
Coming to battery life, It is not even close to what my MacBook Air does in the battery department. You will get around 3 to 4 hours of solid usage. Before you come to a conclusion that this is not great at all, I would like to ask you this. Name one windows laptop which you don't have to charge for a whole day. None. So, as long as you have a charger in your bag, you're good to go. For me, Battery life is decent.
Keyboard is something I loved and believe me guys, this laptop's keyboard is better than the MacBook Air's. I certainly appreciate the TrackPoint between the keyboard. Mostly, for its aesthetics. The trackpad is responsive and soft to the touch. Overall, you will never find this solidly built keyboard and trackpad in any other laptops in this price range.
Build Quality is superb. The display hinge feels solid like my old ThinkPad x240. Guys, I never had any hinge issues with my 6-year-old ThinkPad X240. I can feel that E14 is built well too.
One surprise is that I received a ThinkPad E14 Generation 3, not Generation 2. This is a pleasant surprise and also feels weird that I ordered a Gen 2. Maybe, the seller has not listed the product description that accurately.
The Laptop I received doesn't have any problems except the left side USB A port was very tight at the beginning. After a few times I plugged in and out with a Pendrive, it became normal albeit with a little bit of tightness. This is not an issue for me.
If you decide to buy this, you won't regret it. Period.
