Learn German With Stories: Walzer in Wien - 10 Short Stories For Beginners

In the wake of the events of "Plötzlich in Palermo", Elisabeth lands a promising job in Vienna which comes with many perks but demands a lot of traveling, while Dino is left to his own devices.

Pampered by Viennese "Gemütlichkeit" and slightly confused by yet another German dialect, he hangs around in coffeehouses until he saves the day for someone whose gratitude elevates him into a position of prestige and responsibility.

Explore the Austrian capital, learn about Viennese coffee culture, local cuisine and improve your German effortlessly along the way.

This book is designed to help beginners make the leap from studying isolated words and phrases to reading (and enjoying) naturally flowing German texts. Using simplified sentence structures and a very basic vocabulary, this collection of short stories is carefully crafted to allow even novice learners to appreciate and understand the intricacies of coherent German speech.

Each chapter comes with a complete German-English dictionary, with a special emphasis on collocative phrases (high frequency word combinations), short sentences and expressions. By working with these “building blocks” instead of just single words, learners can accelerate their understanding and active usage of new material and make the learning process more fluid and fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars I can read German now! 30 May 2016

What lovely, charming books these are. Not too easy, not too hard, they provide a distinct thrill when you’re able to read a paragraph at a time without looking in the dictionary for help. Just perfect for the beginner German student, or any lover of languages.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice conclusion to the Dino series 16 November 2016
By Dennis K. Loy - Published on Amazon.com

A nice conclusion to the Dino series. Now moving on to Klein's mysteries series.
As previously noted, this series of books fit my needs perfectly. The stories were moderately interesting while keeping the vocabulary manageable. The text was over-glossed a tad, but better that than under-glossed, particularly for anything approaching idiom. Chapter lengths were also "just-right", more than a few pages, but not so long that it became annoying to move back and forth to the glossary when necessary (I read on a Kindle). The stories also have a bit of a contemporary feel to them, as one of the sub-plots involves refugees. So five stars for me.
(By way of reference, my German study consists of one year of college courses (years ago), a couple community ed courses (also years ago) and, more recently, self study, probably putting me at present somewhere in the vicinity of a second (college) year student.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Notch 19 September 2016

Excellent beginner tutorials for German. The whole series is great. Two are available as audiobooks so you can work on your pronunciation, but these books are geared toward vocabulary and a little grammar.
5.0 out of 5 stars Mr Klein has once again given us a good story for the intermediate reader of German 26 July 2016
By Steven L. Schaffner - Published on Amazon.com

Mr Klein has once again given us a good story for the intermediate reader of German. In this one, the vocabulary is much larger, but the careful reader will notice that while there are many more new words per chapter than in Mr Klein's other books, many are cognates, compound words, or understandable by context. Being able to read these stories the first time with hardly any stops to look up a word, and get all the meanings the second time and pick up a few things you missed the first time, makes all of this very enjoyable. And for a bonus, Mr Klein throws in a little Viennese dialect (sometimes you just have to memorize--just like idioms in English to a non-native speaker).

I have read many of Mr Klein's books, and enjoyed them all. I hope he'll give us a new one soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended for Enjoyable Improvement of German 5 June 2016

It is an entertaining painless way to learn or improve German skills. A cute real life story with a bit of romance provides interest and entertainment. I learned quite a bit and I consider my self somewhat fluent in German yet striving to improve. I like the way I can tap on words for translations as well as the key word translations at the end.
