''Voiced by Cassandra Campbell, a delightful look into the true love story of Scotland's most famous poet, Sir Walter Scott. Gripping and gratifying, incorporating historical detail into a timeless, literary love triangle.Campbell, an accomplished voice performer, acts out their dialogue well, alternating tones and inflections to give the characters depth. Although the Scottish accent is challenging, Campbell rises to the task, and her reading is melodious and natural. Kilpack's double love triangle plot is tantalizing and keeps the action moving quickly. Satisfies on multiple levels, adding details from actual letters, locations, and Scottish history. Perfect for a road trip or a long, relaxing afternoon, The Lady of the Lakes on audiobook is a magical escape to another time and place." --Foreword Reviews
''Excellent choice for both historical fiction fans and readers who crave sweetly romantic love stories. Kilpack's impeccably researched and vividly written novel, the latest in A Historical Proper Romance series about the loves of true-life figures will delight anyone who want to learn more about Scott before he was the celebrated historian, poet, and novelist, and was instead simply a young man in love.'' --Booklist
''A vivid and highly engrossing tale of first love versus best love in this chaste romance that follows the tumultuous love life of Scottish poet and novelist Sir Walter Scott. Kilpack weaves abundant research about Scott's life with her own ideas of likely scenarios to create a seamless, lively, and entertaining account of this literary hero.'' --Publishers Weekly

I could see what was coming with Walter and his first love, Mina, but he certainly didn't. She never would've been happy as his wife and it took him over a year, and some wonderful insight from an older gentleman, to finally realize it. As I read I was anxiously awaiting Charlotte and Walter to finally meet, although Charlotte's companion, Jane, got on my nerves.
As another reviewer noted this book isn't one that moves along quickly with action or suspense, but Josie Kilpack is able to capture your attention with a wonderful story about an everyday, hard working, man who has a way with words, and his journey finding the love of his life.
The book cover is gorgeous and I liked this read so much I'm looking forward to reading Forever and Forever: The Courtship of Henry Longfellow and Fanny Appleton, another Historical Proper Romance.
The story is woven by intermingling beautiful phrases and images to create a tale that will warm the hearts of readers and cause them to cheer for Walter Scott as he searches for his heart's match.
