Adding my short review on using the LG V20 ( Pink ) phone:
My previous phones have included Nokia 808 Pureview, Nokia E72 and multiple other Nokia phones, multiple Xiaomi phones including Redmi Note 3, Meizu Note 2, etc.
Am splitting the review into pros and cons sections:
Pros:
1) Looking very nice / elegant / slim / stylish. Love the pink color and even the pink cover that comes free. Phone definitely looks premium. Best Looking phone I ever had. Period.
2) Great Main Screen - much better than all my previous phones. Jut WOW!
3) Great second screen. I found it very useful, especially for controlling music play.
4) Audio - sounds great without DAC, and greater with the DAC. Much better than all my previous phones.
5) Bundled earphones - great quality (though not the best). Nice sounding. Braided cables mostly. Though tend to entangle with the non braided portion
6) Responsive processor (mostly). SD820 and 4 GB RAM are still very good.
7) All apps are seamlessly installing, some apps are even optimized for LG
8) Features like external memory PLUS dual sim found only in this phone. This was the main reason I bought the phone, along with the supposedly great camera quality.
Cons:
1) Multiple settings / controls missing (or I am unable to find) - For example, settings for Roaming are missing, and while googling indicates the location where the settings are supposed to be found, in reality I cannot find them in my phone! Dual Sim settings possible are much more limited as compared to any of my previous phones.
2) Optimizations are missing - Though I kind of expected this, it still shocked me more than I expected. Especially coming from a Xiaomi phone. I cannot control apps which start up along with the phone, nor do most of the optimizations that I can with a Xiaomi phone.
3) Battery life is pathetic - maybe due to screen resolution. I havent faced such pathetic battery life in any of my recent phones - my last 2 Meizu Note 2 and Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 have both had exemplary battery life. Does not last a day...and some days have to charge twice or thrice. Not sure how I will get used to it.
4) Sudden unresponsiveness - Screen suddenly turns unresponsive, no option but to wait and wait till it comes back. Not sure what all apps are running in the background - havent got around to exploring that area. My Meizu Note 3 as well as iphones I have used in the past are my reference standard - They just run responsively, no matter what. Xiaomi Note 3 has some glitches, but is still better.
5) Power button placed along with fingerprint sensor in the back - not very intuitive, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3's power button placement at side position coupled with fingerprint sensor at the back is much better. Fingerprint sensor surprisingly does not work for initial sign on, only works for subsequent wake-ups (Not sure if this is a feature though, I dont like it, I have got used to using the finger print sensor to sign in on my Redmi Note 3).
6) Lack of themes, surprised when I look at options that LG has, and compare with Xiaomi or even Meizu!
7) Camera - very very disappointed. Maybe I dont know to use properly. Comes out very soft. I currently think the cameras in Redmi Note 3 or even Meizu Note 2 were better. Of course Nokia Pureview was much much better. I went for a marriage yesterday...and tried back and front cameras in both normal and wide angle modes...unfortunately NONE of the photos came out well. Comparing photos taken by friends from their phone cameras, I was disappointed later to see the photos. Admittedly I used the AUTO mode and have not got around to using the acclaimed MANUAL mode and its features since I have not grown confident enough. The few times I tried manual mode, the pictures have not come out well, so presume some of the blame is mine and some the cameras. I do really miss the Nokia Pureview camera :(
8) Lack of software updates - Considering people's feedback on the auto mode of camera on many other sites internationally, expected more software updates. The manufacturing date of the phone I got (in May 2017) was December 2016. The software on the phone was dated November 2016, and during the first bootup got an update dated December 2016. Security patch dated 1/Dec/16. Have not received any updates post that. Very disappointing seeing this from LG.
9) No proper forums exist, or I have been unable to find a forum where there is interest either from manufacturer or users. Not much interest in the the usual suspect forums like XDA.
10) LG Bridge software is hit and miss.
Others:
1) External speaker sound - Reasonably loud, could have been better. But this was known and is livable with.
2) Fast charging is also a hit and miss. Mostly works. Though sometimes not sure why it charges quite slowly, similar to charging using slow charger.
2) Happy that LG Mobile business has moved away from Red into Black. But very sad to see that V20 is now included in the class action bootloop case. LG really needs to be more proactive and visible in customer support.
