As far as the story goes- Ashwin Sanghi has done remarkable research for the Novel, although not all of that adds meaningfully to the plot. But the sheer effort that must have gone in the research and the insights taken out of it is commendable. The plot is thin though and it appears, was created to utilize the research, even at time unnecessary. The story reaches it peak around middle but the end is bit of let down in comparison. Once you finish the novel, you also realize the open ends and might question if all the running around that was done by the main protagonist was necessary. Also some of the arguments are not convincing. The main antagonist of the novel- which starts very strong somehow get transformed as a week character towards the end and you may question the reason for the entire story to unfold. The main antagonist could have done with a bit more character development and depth.
The Novel has parallel story in Krishna monologue and I would have loved to connect it with main story in a congenital way. However to Sanghi's credit the story moves fast, action is intense-brilliantly captured, insights into history are remarkable and the parallel Krishna monologue is awesome. The novel is a true page turner in a real sense. You understand the shortcomings only after you finish the novel. I feel that if the climax was worked out a little bit more, it could have been a truly outstanding story. Nevertheless the story should be enjoyable by everyone, especially the ones who like history and rest assured you will not miss anything even if you read Hindi translation.
I recommend that you should go ahead and read this one- Ashwin Sanghi is our Dan Brown!
