Kingston’s A400 Solid-State Drive
Kingston’s A400 solid-state drive dramatically improves the responsiveness of your existing system with incredible boot, loading and transfer times compared to mechanical hard drives. Powered by a latest gen controller for read and write speeds up to 500MB/s and 450MB/s*, this SSD is 10x faster than a traditional hard drive* for higher performance, ultra-responsive multi-tasking and an overall faster system.
Also more reliable and durable than a hard drive, A400 is built with Flash memory. There are no moving parts, making it less likely to fail than a mechanical hard drive. It’s also cooler and quieter, and its shock and vibration resistance makes it ideal for notebooks and other mobile computing devices.
A400 is available in multiple capacities from 120GB–480GB** to give you all the space you need for applications, videos, photos and other important documents. You can also replace your hard drive or a smaller SSD with a drive big enough to hold all your files.
This SSD is designed for use in desktop and notebook computer workloads, and is not intended for Server environments.
*Based on 'out-of-box performance' using a SATA Rev. 3.0 motherboard. Speed may vary due to host hardware, software and usage. IOMETER Random 4k Random Read/Write is based on 8GB partition.
**Some of the listed capacity on a Flash storage device is used for formatting and other functions and thus is not available for data storage. As such, the actual available capacity for data storage is less than what is listed on the products.
Highlights
- Fast start-up, loading and file transfers

This is a bottom of the barrel SSD, it just about straddles the minimum point of what I would be happy to put my important data on. There are compromises. Read/Write speeds are agonisingly slow compared to other SSDs, and the flash chips wear out very quickly. High quality NAND flash will be able to take a lot more total writes than something of this calibre.
If you want an SSD for general use, then this will be... fine. Just make 100% sure you have your data backed up (You should be doing that anyway regardless of what storage you have, but don't use this drive in particular without a backup).
If you want an SSD for backups then hey, this could do the trick. Although traditional HDDs are better in capacity to £££ ratio, they're noisy. An SSD like this does everything silently.
If you want an SSD for gaming then don't bother with this, get something higher grade. The speed improvements over an HDD are pretty negligible and you will be sitting in loading screens for considerably longer (check youtube for comparisons).
However: Kingston HAVE taken the money they've saved by using low grade components, and passed it directly onto the customer.
So yeah. If your use case has some redundancy built and you're aware why you're paying less money for this, then it can be a good place to save a buck. 2TB is a lot of space as well, more than enough for 99.9% of people. For me, it was ultimately a little too slow, so I returned it.

Model: KINGSTON SA400S371920G
Fw : S3401103
Size : 1831420 MB
From smart : [SMI2259XT] [S0620A0 00]
Controller : SM2259
