Dragons!! (No, no sea creature.)
Magic!! Witchcraft!! (No, no, no. NO! PSI of some kind.. .)
Intervention of the Elder Gods... Shades of Cthluhu.
Seriously, I love fantasy too. As I do science fiction. But never shall the twain meet.
And those poor Baldies. I am reminded of the bit player, who is "playing" a man standing in a bus queue, who goes to the direktor of the film and ask "What is my motivation?" So, they are "Evil, wicked, men and nasty. (Don't step on the gras, Sam. They will ruin this fair country. (Steppenwolf, Easy Rider)). But... First novel, they discovery that the (evil) Reds have plundered their space ship, and by inplication, murdered the crew, so they come running, killing the evil Reds (so the nice heroes do not have to, they are still nice.) Then they follow them through time, destroying all their bases. Really, I have no problem. (Hmm... The have Time Travel. Why not go back a little and save their palms? Sorry, sorry...) Book two; just evil, wicked etc. Book tree, dito. This novel? Very, very, evil, etc. But. WHY??? No explanations. Not a short paragraph, not even a scentence. I fel sorry for the Baldies.
Positive: I like the hero, Ross. Belivable. Not nausceously nobel. Killes, but, hey, selfdefence, so he does not do a complete meltdown, as Travis Fox in book three. But, hard to identify with as a normal, twenty-first century adult, when he captures three Baldies, who are then questioned off-stage, (how, by whom?) and then kept alive. All three of them. Tsk, tsk. Unclear what happens to them. Sent home? Really.
Never mind that, and many inconsistions, if you like 1-3, this is OK. But, better if it had not gotten written.
The books in Andre Norton's "Time Trader" series are:
1 and 2: Time Traders: The Time Traders & Galactic Derelict
3: The Defiant Agents
4: Key Out of Time
