Anurag Tripathi is an alumnus of the Indian School of Business with a course in Advanced Creative Writing from The University of Oxford, Department for Continuing Education. A keen observer of people, he is a master raconteur who draws on his vast reservoir of life experiences.

As an erstwhile Investment Banker, he previously led the retail equity business for a financial company in India. Dalal’s Street, his second, is a fictionalised no-holds-barred account of what goes on behind the scenes in the financial advisory business in India. Though that still hasn't deterred him from continuing to invest in the Indian stock markets for the last 20 years.

His debut novel, Kalayug on the art market in India, was nominated for the Raymond Crossword Book Awards in 2017. A member of the Singapore Writer's Group, he now lives in 'the Lion City', along with his wife. Both are keen scuba divers, who like travelling and exploring the worlds lesser known.

The first thing you that you takeaway from this debut novel of the author is how neatly laid out it is! Its a fast, easy read thanks to eloquent use of language that doesn't really tax the reader. This novel hands out so much information (shows the extent of research) that I would say KALAYUG can be a crash course to learn about a host of things about art (painting) - from the business of art to art forgery, art restoration and art history. The tidbits about the life of the great Master - Tagore are quite a revelation in a way!! Hats off to the author for the level of detailing!
I also found it very curious that the author has smartly used his knowledge of economics/ financial markets and interspersed the same with the art world - calling it the alternate asset class. He successfully unveils the murky world of art dealing while also bringing out the beauty and nature of pure art as is.
Author's harsh comment/observation on our social norms, etiquette and practices are quite apt. In our zeal to make it big in life, we have reduced a thing of beauty to a mere commodity!
Even though the novel falters a bit and gets repetitive in the middle , yet it maintains the excitement levels and the reader does look forward to the next turn of events.. but as they say the best is always saved for the last. Just when one might think that there is no more twist left in the tale, the author throws up a surprise and stumps the reader. The premise is very novel as the subject has hardly been dealt in the manner it has been used/ showcased in this book. One looks forward to more such enticing tales from the Anurag Tripathi!!

A very well written book portraying the new urban wealthy class of people. Some of the interesting people in this book-Biswas the typical good for nothing Bengali loser, Patel the industrialist who stole electricity and stood outside his factory with a bag of cash to bribe electricity board inspectors and Patti who used her pussycat to climb her way to the summit of the art world. This is a very well researched and enjoyable read that delves into the lives of the new rich in Delhi and Mumbai and the genteel poor of Erstwhile Calcutta who live in their crumbling mansions nursing their wounded bengali pride. You’ve got to admire Jay the hero of the story for his energy and drive. I throughly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the new modern India.

This is one of the best novels I have read so far. I never found myself so engrossed in reading!!

This book is a fiction thriller and at the same time it provides a great perspective about the art market and opens up some of the closely guarded secrets or practices prevalent in this industry.

The subject knowledge depicted in the book proves that the author has done some real good research. The writing style is also very entertaining and involves you so much that you would not be able to put down the novel midway. Rarely you would see such a master piece from a new author.

The story unfolds in unpredictable ways that take you by surprise and keep you guessing. Also for me it was quite good to have a primer on intricacie Kalayug s of the art world.

Really enjoyed Kalyug. This was a fast paced novel and an easy read. The author weaved in many features of the current art and capital market successfully into his plot. Art as an asset class is so subjective, but the author delves deeper into what goes into making an artist commercially successful. The characters are well developed though you don't form an emotional attachment with any of them. Having read Kalyug, I want to find out more about the art world, and artists - specially Tagore.

Can't wait to read the next book!
