About the Author
Edward James ‘Jim’ Corbett (25 July 1875—19 April 1955) was an Anglo-Indian hunter and tracker-turned-conservationist, author and naturalist, famous for hunting a large number of maneating tigers and leopards in India. He played a key role in creating a national reserve for the endangered Bengal tiger in what is now Uttarakhand. In 1957 the national park was renamed Jim Corbett National Park in his honour.

I was an extremely naughty child and the only way to make me sit quietly was to put a book in my hands. I was put in an English medium school but dad always took care that I remain close to my mother-tongue. He used to bring me Bengali books (including the Bengali versions of popular ones).
I was about 7 or 8 years old when dad introduced me to Jim Corbett (the entire collection of his writings translated to Bengali and I must mention here that the translation is just as good as the original writing!!). The very first thing I liked about the great man was his looks (he is so similar to my grandpa!!) and it was him who taught me about conservation of wildlife (I am sure that at the time of Corbett the word "conservation' was meaningless as far as Indian forests and wildlife were concerned).
The stories made me shiver in my bed (I often asked my grandma to accompany to the washroom at night as we had to pass through the open veranda and I had every reason to imagine that the man-eating leopard of Rudraprayag was lurking for me!!!). I have read the Bengali version for innumerable time and I was thrilled to see the mango tree at Golabrai (near Rudraprayag market, from which Corbett shot the man-eating leopard) on my trip to Kedarnath. It is true that India (especially Corbett's Garhwal and Kumaoun) has changed dramatically, but the change did not affect my addiction towards this great man.
I was interested in reading his writings in the original form (but the price were high at the bookstores) and amazon brought me the opportunity to enrich my collection of books with the ones I dreamt about. I am happy to have this book now and sure to read them million more times! The only complaint I have against the publisher is that the book does not contain a single picture of Jim Corbett. This is ridiculous! I mean............the omnibus collection of such a great person but people cannot even see his pics!!!! I don't there think there are many who already know about Corbett.....so to let the present generation know about the man, it is necessary to show who the person was!!!!!
Otherwise, I am very happy with the paper quality and print.
