On top of that, I constantly jump from mobile phone calls to computer-based calls (Lync, Webex, etc), and managing headsets across both platforms was inconvenient.
What I was looking for was a single solution that I could use across both platforms without any re-cabling or re-pairing. I have tried many (many, many) solutions, and none of them worked satisfactorily...until this one.
First and foremost, this is a USB headset that plugs into my Windows 7 64-bit laptop, and it works flawlessly with Lync, Webex, etc. The mic is unidirectional, meaning that it only 'listens' on the side that closest to your mouth, and it appears to pick up sounds on the back-side of the mic as well and use those to cancel out background noise. For the first time, ever, my wife and I can both be on calls simultaneously, talk in normal voices, and not bleed over into each others calls. It's fantastic.
Secondly, the audio quality from the speakers is excellent, and is so clear that I end up talking in a quieter voice, if that makes any sense. You see, I have a habit that if what I'm *hearing* isn't clear, I end up talking louder instinctively to be sure I'm not also being heard unclearly. My wife says that now I stay quiet on calls, and it's happening without me even thinking about it.
Third, and this part was a surprise to me, when you have this unit plugged into your computer via USB such that it has power, it is then also available as a bluetooth headset! I strongly recommend downloading and installing the latest Jabra software for this headset, as it makes pairing and control of the bluetooth functionality very simple.
So, now, I have a single headset that I can grab for any call. It cancels out background noise flawlessly. The audio I hear is so clear that I end up talking in a more normal level of loudness. And it works with both my computer and mobile phone automatically.
No product is perfect, but after many years and many wasted dollars, I finally have a headset that does just what I need. We also got one for my wife, and she loves hers as well. Highly, highly recommended.
Love the fact that this headset is firmware upgradeable. I compared this headset to a simple Plantronics headset and the audio quality is pretty striking. The noise-cancelling is subtle but it really does eliminate the background noise. (It removes the white noise from typical conversations. It will NOT remove background TV audio, for example.)
The boom microphone is really nice and very long. It's definitely the longest microphone I've used on a headset. It doesn't show in the picture but the headset does come with a microphone windsock to help with certain noises.
It's a little pricey but the headset quality is first-rate. Each ear piece swivels which is handy but I wish there was some way to "lock" them down as they can get a little "too free" especially when taking them off and on a lot.
If you are making a lot of calls on the computer then this is worthwhile investment.
On the plus side, it seems to function just fine in terms of sound quality. I could hear and people could hear me just fine. It was plug and play with Lync. I also really like that it has the ability to connect to my phone via Bluetooth (which is not plug and play- you have to install Jabra's software suite to get this functionality) so when I'm not on a call I can listen to music without switching to my ear buds. The inline remote is great for quick access to picking up, hanging up, and changing the volume.
However, the main reason to buy an expensive headset (in my opinion) is to have good sound cancellation. Unfortunately, despite promising this, the Jabra BIZ 2400 fails miserably on this score. It does not seem to have any noticeable surrounding noise reduction over and above the standard microphones that are in built to most laptops these days.
The mic muff also has a habit of falling off.
On that basis, I cannot recommend this headset. I for one won't be buying another.
