JJC LH-73C lens hood is designed for Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens. Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. JJC LH-73C lens hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. This flower shape lens hood also takes the final image's shape and aspect ratio into account. It allows the lens hood to block stray light with the higher portions of the lens hood while allowing more light into the corners of the image through the lowered portions of the hood, thereby reducing the amount of vignetting in the final image. This hood is also reversible to stay on lens when not in use. Now the original CANON lens cap can be attached to the lens normally. JJC LH-73C lens hood replaces CANON EW-73C lens hood. Compatibility: Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM Lens Replaces Canon EW-73C Lens Hood

It doesn't seem to do a whole lot for reducing flare, but as an ultra-wide lens I didn't have many problems with flare anyway. This was mainly for some extra protection in case I bump the front of the lens against something.
Some people didn't want to wait and modified the EW-73B hood and equivalent hoods by shaving down the side petals since it also fits on the lens. I was considering doing this too, but when I saw that this was now available, I just went with it, as it saves me the trouble of modifying a lens hood to make it work. If you have to buy another EW-73B or equivalent to modify, you might as well just buy this one and save some time and trouble.
Anyway, on to the impressions of this hood. It is a clone of the original and more expensive Canon EW-73C. This is my second JJC lens hood, and I have to say that for clone hoods, they are probably one of the better brands. The plastic feels sturdier than some of the other clones out there. The fit on my lens was a tiny bit tighter than when I put my EW73-B hood on to try. At first it seems a bit hard to put on/remove but it seems to have gotten better after several tries. Like my previous JJC hood (LH-72), the red paint on the hood (that marks where to line up the hood to the lens), is kind of dark so it may be difficult for some to see. The red mark on the lens itself is bright red and very easy to see. Not a big deal though.
Overall I'm happy with it for the money I saved.
I bought this for my 10-18 since the cost of the genuine Canon hood is too high for the cost of the lens.
Fits good and has a nice snug fit that I like.
Much better deal than Canon's original.
As for the rating, my Canon hoods and some of the other knockoffs (Velo I think) I own have that black velvet type liner on the inside surface.
This one does not have that velvet type liner, so that's why I am docking it.
If someone can tell me that the original Canon hood does not have this liner, I will gladly adjust my review rating.
It has a good snug fit on the lens though, will have to see how it holds up with the constant removing and flipping over for storage like my Canon and Velo hoods.
One other thing is the packing box for the hood was damaged.
The shipping box was in perfect condition, so I don't know if that means I got a return, or it was badly handled at the time of shipping.
I'm not really dinging it for that though.
I would make this purchase again without a second thought.
Second, Great Price
Third, works on the Canon EF-S 10mm-18mm when reversed
I got a great bargain on a Refurbished Lens from Canon, but was
not interested in the overpriced Canon hood. Read several reviews
from different users of different brands and this hood seemed to be the
Some other hoods evidently can't be reversed on the lens, but this one
DOES in my experience.
Had picked up the lens to shoot the interior of a house to put on the
Real Estate Market. Works like a gem and by the way sold the house
for a nice profit.
Then decided to try the lens outdoors and realized that I would be
getting flare on the lens due to the wide angle.
I ordered this hood and it works like a champ. Shot wide angle images
of the Rockies this past weeks and the hood was excellent.
It's made of decent plastic and with proper use and storage it should
last me a a couple of years, maybe longer.
I have not tried the Canon branded lens hood for this lens, but I own
a few "L" lenses that have the hoods included. I always buy extra third
party hoods for back up. This hood is probably just a level down in plastic
durability, but then it's less than half the price and works fine for a lens
that I'll use occasionally on my APS censor camera.
