That is not to say that there is not a narrative story to this book, quite the opposite. It is a story about a journey, or perhaps journeys. A girl trying to save her own world, a husband and a father watching his life slip away, a wife and a mother holding a family together and a shadow of an ominous man towering over the subtly mystical Maya.
But the book often reads more like a poem than a novel, where each individual piece, each particular situation is unique and not necessarily connected to everything else, unless you want it to be. It is an interesting journey into the mind of the author through the minds of his creations. Or perhaps they are not creations at all, but rather extensions of an intricate web of lives.
Depending on how one reads it, it can be a blissful joy or a somewhat underwhelming experience. Some parts of the book do not shine as brightly as others, and some of the language used may seem misplaced at times. But for those of you who can appreciate beauty in moments I would recommend this work as an interesting experience that has a subtle uniqueness to it.
