5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value CPU!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 4 March 2017
I've been using this CPU for a few months now and I have to say that it has performed consistently well even under demanding open-world games. Clearly it is not a high-end i7, but in terms of value for money, I think this CPU performs very well. As long as you are not streaming or rendering 4k video, you should be alright with this CPU. I have mainly used it for gaming and daily browsing, however it can cope with video editing. If you are looking to combo this CPU with a Graphics card, I would suggest pairing it with either an RX 480 or a GTX 1060, as from experience these two components can form a very capable mid-range gaming PC. One of the only negatives I have found with this CPU is slight stuttering in demanding open-world games such as Watch Dogs 2; in high-speed driving scenes I did experience some small frames drops but managed to tweak the setting to suit it.
If you are looking for a PC with a solid upgrade path, I would suggest purchasing a Z170/Z270 Motherboard as you may decide you want to overclock in the future. Also, Intel have released their new series of CPU's- "Kaby Lake", so you might want to look into one of them. The equivalent of this CPU, offering marginal performance differences is the i5 7400. If it is cheaper I would suggest picking up one of these as it is better value, you could combo it with a Z270 or a more budget motherboard for great performance at a fairly low price.
But to conclude this review, I was pleased with my purchase and strongly recommend it for a home, work or gaming PC. If you can pick it up for under £150 it is a good deal. (Sorry for the bad quality picture, I had to use my iPhone 6 which doesn't take well to RGB LED's)
