The short stories in here are a mix bag, ranging from funny, to downright macabre.
The fact that every story has a link to the army is the only common ground. What I loved best, is that it shows the individuals as people, not painting them as superheroes, who can do no wrong.
This is no where your normal fauji stories (some are) but some will leave you wondering, bewildered, question your stands and even make you choose an ending you want (one story). It made me emotional, laugh hysterically, proud, pensive and the best one was ‘Munni Mausi’ as loss of a loved one is something I had gone through as well although less spooky and during my teens.
Rachna mam writes very well which is easily understood by both, a beginner English book reader and by someone who has taste for complicated literature. She connects with the reader very well and the characters feel alive and like narrating to us in the living room over a glass of warm rum in winters and kero heater burning. This book is highly recommended for aspirants to understand a life they so aspire to be a part of, however I must say, if one doesn’t have any idea of our forces and their ethos, one may find themselves interpreting some of these stories in a different manner however she has briefly explained key terms and traditions so it shouldn’t be of a big concern.
I could relate the characters to real life people I have had the fortune to serve with and that’s the beauty of her writing, in concise words she’ll bring out the full picture of that person.
🥰
Enjoyed devouring it in one sitting.

I am disappointed due to the fact that almost 25-30 pages in the book were missing. Not expected from reputed publisher Penguin. However, return period is over.
They have feelings and emotions like us.
Why are they different from us?
There are people who know how to get over losses disappointments and failures and there are some who dont but a
Soldier from indian army be it from any wing a regular soldier or a field medic or a special force office are the elite and best and are known to carry on. This books teaches us many lessons that can be learnt from soldiers.
Rachana bisht rawat herself a wife of army officer nails it again.recommend this as must read .jai hind
