Product description

One of the oldest painting forms is Madhubani or Mithila paintings was developed long back during King Janak's reign in the Ramanaya time. The name itself depicts from where it belongs that is Mithila region or Madhubani village of Bihar. These paintings using natural colors are very beautifully and traditionally done on paper mostly depict Hindu deities like Ram, Krishna, Shiva, Saraswati, Lakshmi and Durga. While nature as the moon, the sun and even plants like tulsi together with Hindu devotional events formed the earliest concepts of this traditional art. Generally Madhubani paintings are identified by the fact that there is no space in the painting/canvas left uncovered. A traditional art form passed down from one generation of women to another. Traditionally rice ground into paste was used to create these works of art. Today Madhubani art is practiced on paper, cloth and other medium as well.
