Meanwhile, there is no reason why parents and teachers should not supplement the academic curriculum of their kids with inputs which are Indian (rooted in the developing soul of India, to her future need, to the greatness of her coming self creation, to her eternal spirit and her rich spiritual traditions) and National ( inclusive in nature, and mindful of the great diversity that makes One India, United India, fostering love for their nation and a wide, universal appreciation of the diversity in the nation and the world).
Through 26 well-researched ideas, each dealing with a specific area of education, Beloo shows how this can be achieved. A must read for all parents and teachers!

There are many books, academic papers and newspaper editorials written on the dismal state of our education system. Experts, opinion-makers, well-read citizens, teachers, parents, administrators all have their own ideas and opinions on how to “improve” the rotting system, how to “correct” the mistakes, how to “solve” the problems.
ABC’s of Indian National Education, an easy-to-read thin volume, authored by Dr. Beloo Mehra, a former school teacher and university professor with years of experience of teaching in India and the US, does not offer any quick fixes. What it does offer, and in a highly inspiring way, is a way for us to rethink our education as a whole, starting with the aim of Indian education.
Dr. Mehra uses a rather interesting approach to present several different aspects of the Indian education that must be rethought on a very fundamental level. The book jacket reads – "This book introduces 26 themes –each for a letter of the English alphabet – that according to the author should guide, shape or be a part of an Indian National Education.”
It must be emphasized that the book is not about Indianizing the education in any narrow, chauvinistic, jingoist sense. And that the arguments and ideas presented in the book continue to remind the reader that this is in fact not the true Indian way, is in itself a remarkable achievement of this work. Dr. Mehra speaks of some selected aspects of the essential Indian spirit and sheds some light on the forms through which this spirit may express itself in the educational thought and practice of the country.
ABC’s of Indian National Education asks readers – parents, teachers, professors, educationaladministrators, policy-makers –to reflect upon and rethink some of the fundamentals and philosophical foundations of our National Education. While more thorough research and a deeper analysis of some of the topics included there will make the book much more substantive and comprehensive, even in its present form the book offers several hints on curriculum restructuring, pedagogical innovations and administrative reform.
