The Annual Carnival of Hastings is fast approaching and Mr Cheeks, a dapper tap-dancing chihuahua; Mr Grey,

Tazmeen Amna is extremely passionate about animals. She ditched a corporate career and is currently working with the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations. When not enjoying the company of the furry ones, Tazmeen paints portraits of them-her medium being watercolour and acrylics. A bookworm and feminist, she has been painting and writing since the age of four. She studied literature at Lady Shri Ram College for Women and also holds an MBA degree. She resides in New Delhi with her family and her many pets-Bagheera, the real-life
Mr Grey; a Madagascar lovebird; a Quaker parakeet; a grey cockatiel; and a Netherland Dwarf rabbit. Her future plans include adopting a kitten as well as penning down a sequel to this book.

Tazmeen Amna’s The Incredible Adventures of Mr Cheeks: The Carnival of Hastings has animal characters displaying very human prejudices. The main characters are Mr Cheeks, a dancing dog, Mr Grey, a Persian cat who is a talented painter, and Hopper, a rabbit who can sing. They want to present their talents at the Annual Carnival of Hastings, but find that the event managers believe in stereotypes -- only nightingales can sing and only peacocks can dance. The setting is an English village, but the societal reactions are universal. My eleven-year-old grandson thoroughly enjoyed the story, which conveys a moral unobtrusively by showing how these unusual animals win recognition.

The Incredible Adventures of Mr Cheeks is a novella that narrates the story of three friends who want to change the usual practises that are a part of the carnival of the Hastings. Their desire to showcase their talent before many and their courage to take a stand for themselves- this is what keeps them going. Fighting all odds, making their way through the critical glares of many and foregoing the judgements passed by their peers, these three bank on the support they provide each other. Eventually, they emerge victorious.

The story explores the importance of friends in our lives. It also aims to encourage the children to appreciate the qualities that they have and respect the differences. Mr Cheeks is just another young boy who has dreams and ambition but is held back by the pressures of the world. He contemplates his choice of actions but then, with the support of his friends, he embarks on a quest to make the necessary change happen.

When I was reading this book, I felt that I was a kid who had been sent to the village Hastings to see what is going on. The animal characters are so human, I could just picturise them. The names of the characters have been chosen well. The descriptions of scenes are detailed and the scenes could be easily visualised.
The language is simple and the pace of the story is such that children of all ages would be able to follow it. The illustrations are beautiful. I loved the thought behind the book, that if we decide to do something, we will definitely find a way to do it and also make a success of it.
A MUST READ for kids and adults.

Beautifully written. If you are in consulting world, even better as you will fall off laughing at the tragic reality of the book. I teaches us the importance of friendship in life and the way Mr. Cheeks, Mr. Grey and Hopper support each other to get through the journey is amazing!
