About the Author

Dale Carnegie was a lecturer of public speaking at YMCA New York. He had also served U.S. army during World War 1. He started his career by giving lectures on personality development and public speaking. He became a sought after teacher and later, writer later on in his life. He published his first book in 1936 and authored more self-help books renowned around the world. Some of his other works include 'How to Stop Worrying and Start Living’ and 'Lincoln the Unknown’

Oh boy, where do I start! This book is so amazing I wish I could give 5 more stars. I have read so many self help books and topic this covers seems so simple but so important and hardly any book has been written on "Human relations". As Dale mentions it it is "human relationship handbook" of do's and dont's; but they come from far more research and analysis than any such book (or organization) has ever done!

What you read is essentially so easy to understand and relate in day to day life. Like chapter one is "Don't kick beehive to get honey" and examples are so simple and explained well I could relate it to many aspects in life. It simply means when you criticize people go in defensive mode and it doesn't yield any good to anyone! Just read the book to understand what I mean..

I wish someone had given me copy of this book like 10+ years back when I started my career. Nevertheless it is still good learning book. Just buy it, you won't regret it!

I had always wanted to read this book but never got chance. Finally I purchased the Kindle edition during some good deal. Although I believe that hard copy is more better than reading in Kindle edition.

About the book i review below, although I have not read it fully.

Pros:
1 Good book for teenagers, management students, businessman, high level managers.
2 Real life examples are mentioned which gives this book good influence rather than reading it like theory.
3 Well defined chapters makes it easy to read, if you don't want to read it fully.

Cons:
1 This book was written many years ago. Although it might have some connection to recent trends, but not always.
2 The book is written by foreign author so there are many real life cases of countries such as America, Canada, Britain and so on. I believe that it might not suit Indian mindsets and way of living.
3 Sometimes you feel that some ideas are way too cheesy and goody-goody...which might not work well always in real life situations.

Verdict: It is good to read atleast once. I mean it is better to read whenever we get time instead of surfing internet or social sites.

Slightly outdated, riddled with out of the blue illustrations

Read this book if you satisfy any of following conditions
1. You want to know about the atiquetes of living in 1940s-60s. You are well aware of the historical figures from late 1800s and early 1900s such as Lincon, Rockerfeller etc.
2. You dont care if the illustrations/examples the author would use to prove his point do not have any firm factual footing. eg. the author often gives an example of a person he met or a relative he talked with. Historical examples such as Lincon, Rockerfeller are fine but personal anectots of the author may put you off.

List of principles at the end of chapters is pretty good.

In the preface, author says that we may want to read and reread the book several times, but I would say just skim through the book once thats well enough.
