From the Manufacturer
Company of Animals Heritage
Way back in 1979 Dr Roger Mugford, (now a world renowned animal psychologist) founded The Company of Animals as a vehicle to sell his inventions.
The Company is based on a 100 acre working farm in Surrey (England) and is just minutes away from the M25 and M3 with strategic connections to Heathrow and Gatwick airports. The site is also home to the Training and Behaviour Centre, which was also founded by Roger in 1979. The Training and Behaviour Centre is now regarded as one of the best in the country; specialising in all levels of dog training, offering behaviour consultations on veterinary referral as well as resolving legal issues about pets, in and out of court. This gives The Company Of Animals the unique advantage of being able to constantly research and develop new products to help resolve pet-related behaviour and training problems, as well as having a great base in which to test new designs and principles of animal training.
The primary drive for our company has always been to develop products that help owners and their pets find an enriched life and to improve animal welfare. The first and most famous product to be developed was the HALTI. Designed and developed by Roger, the HALTI was the first ever canine headcollar and has gone on to be the world favourite.
Today COA has suppliers, distributors and partners in over 42 different countries.
We believe that our products must improve the wellbeing of pets as well as helping their owners. For example, the HALTI Headcollar was designed to give owners effective control when walking their dogs without causing pain or damage to the dog's delicate throat area. The steering action of the HALTI is so effective that it led to the development of the HALTI Harness, which works on the same principle of front control, but from the chest.
Company of Animals Today
In addition to developing and producing our own products, we also import and distribute some of the world’s leading brands of pet products including Mr Muscle, Arm & Hammer, Pet Head, the Nina Ottosson range of interactive games, Sporn pet products and Homeopet.
COA’s portfolio is constantly evolving and developing and now boasts over 40 different product ranges. Popular products include the HALTI Headcollar, Baskerville Muzzle, Anxiety Wrap, Coachies Treats and the revolutionary hand-held Pet Corrector device which interrupts unwanted behaviour by a hiss of air. The CLIX range of training accessories is hugely popular amongst trainers and behaviourists and offers everything from whistles and canvas dummy's to long lines and treat bags.
From the manufacturer
What is a Halti Headcollar & how does it work?
The Halti stops dogs from pulling by steering the head so the body has to follow. It was invented in 1979 by Dr Roger Mugford and is approved and recommended by vets and canine professionals worldwide. Its unique patented design works by gently directing the dog’s head, steering him into the desired position, just as a headcollar works to steer a horse. The Halti makes training and behaviour modification of dogs practical and safe. It can be used in a number of ways: either as a passive means to simply stop dogs pulling or as an active training aid. Millions have been sold worldwide to grateful owners of pulling dogs.
What Makes the Halti Unique?
The Halti is made from lightweight, yet strong nylon webbing. It is designed for comfort and allows your dog freedom to pant and yawn.
Halti features a unique, on-off muzzling action to close the dog’s jaws, helping to give you greater control. All Halti 's now feature a padded noseband for extra comfort. The 'standard' Halti has neoprene padding and the 'padded' Halti , features leather padding. Each Halti comes complete with a free Halti Safety Link that connects to the dog’s collar, for extra security and a comprehensive fitting and training guide.
Halti Harness & Halti Lead
The Halti Harness was designed by Dr Roger Mugford to stop a dog pulling by providing front control. It applies the same principle as the Halti Headcollar but by steering the dog from his chest rather than by his head. The Halti Harness puts owners in control of dogs that don’t like or cannot wear a Halti Headcollar. The patented front control system steers the dog from his chest and shoulders - and thus sets the direction in which he can move. Unlike other designs of anti-pull harnesses, the Halti does not put painful pressure on the body and is always comfortable. Ideally used with a double-ended lead to give maximum control, the back ring above the shoulders acts as a brake while the front lead steers.
The multi-functional Halti Training Lead, was designed by Dr Roger Mugford to control, guide and tether a dog in everyday situations. It is made from super-soft padded material, which is extremely strong, yet very comfortable to hold. It can be used in 8 versatile different functions, it is 2m in length and is double-ended for flexibility. Ideal for use with Halti Headcollar and Harness or just as an everyday lead. Available in two widths; S (w:15mm), L (w:25mm) and in a choice of Black or Red.
Halti Headcollar Fitting Tips
Time should be taken when accustoming a dog to the Halti, so that he has a positive association with it. Initially place the noseband flat in your hand and feed the dog treats, so that he is happily putting his nose through it. When he accepts it, the neck section can be secured so it’s snug but not too tight. On a correctly fitted Halti, the noseband naturally sits half way down the nose and away from the eyes. When you release pressure on the chin strap, make sure the dog can fully open his mouth without restriction.
When introducing the Halti, continual praise and reward using treats is recommended so wearing the Halti becomes a positive experience. Refer to the instruction manual for more information on how to do this. Never leave the Halti on an unsupervised dog as he may chew it.

If this is a dog training tool for a 50+ lb dog, it should not be made out of gossamer webbing that will rip after 4 days. After reading such great things - Is this for real?
He becomes such a well behaved boy when his on it. He's very young and likes to jump this really keeps him in check. The only down fall is that it makes his snoot itchy. Lol
It did take him a little while to get use to it, but it's a like saver on vacation!
