J.B. and Nora Nash have recently migrated from the post-Civil War misery of the high plains to the outskirts of rapidly growing Pendleton, Oregon. Things are looking up on their new ranch nicknamed "Nash's Folly" when an unspeakable tragedy strikes them both. Never in all of literature have I been captivated by how Shanna Hatfield put into words the wild emotional turmoil that a wife and mother endure at the loss of a child. The unconsolable misery that grips Nora almost destroys her sanity and indeed her marriage. Husband J.B. is also grief-stricken but like most men he throws himself both into his work and his loving but frustrated efforts to return Nora back to a sense of normality. Join them and their loving and thoughtful friends and neighbors as the community rallies to rescue them with the joy of Christmas. I would be remiss if I did not tell you, dear readers, how J.B. and Nora appear throughout the Pendleton Petticoats series as stalwarts who lead, help and mentor everyone in their sphere. Bring lots of Kleenex but fear not because the author eventually brings a glorious HEA!
I can re-write the description but you already know what the story is about, so here is what you need to know. This is a book of love. A book of family, dedication and perseverance. That joy comes in the morning moment so you know to keep on keeping on. JB is a wonderful man and husband. Nora has to deal and Shanna does a great job of describing her (Nora) thoughts and pain.
This is a story to fall into. You will not want to put it down. It's easy to connect with, to put yourself into. All though this is a "historical" it is something that happens every day and could well be a modern day tale. I cannot give this book enough praise.
I would highly recommend this book. It is a clean read and one you will also fall in love with.
Having never lost a child I can't claim to know. But my Mother lost a son just a free he was born. In those days the mothers were kept in bed for a week before they could dangle their feet. Mom was never allowed to see him. She mourned him for nearly 50 years. Until she was able to see him again. This story helped me to understand some of what she went through.
I make it sound depressing but it really isn't. It is a story of a life nearly lost in brief then restored with faith and love.
A beautiful story
